    Wink Hello from Iowa

Hi my name is Brooks and a few of my friends and I have spent the last three years trying to come up with a way to deliver accurate pricing indexes to scrappers as an alternative to some of the high cost sources out there.
We launched a web service about a year ago. We have a website that provides LME/Comex market data and we have hundreds of contributors giving us ferrous pricing from across the country so we offer ferrrous pricing broken down by region as well.

Beyond the pricing we are always looking for ways to serve the scrap community and we are looking for some feedback from people that might use a service like this. We have a scrap exchange that is basically a database of scrap consumers that is sortable by commodity. There are scrap classifieds, equipment classifieds, original editorial and equipment reviews. We would just like some feedback from the web community

Nice to be a part of Scrap metal Forum!

    $699.00??!! LOL

Wait, did I LOL? I meant let me go cash in my pile of stainless and what not so I can get in on the introductory price of only $699.00. I would feel mighty foolish if I missed out.

What would be a fair number for our service in your mind? I don't feel like I'm gouging any of my subscribers they all say they are very happy not to be paying what they used to with a comparable service. It would blow your mind to know what it costs to get a feed like this running. Not to mention the work it takes to compile the ferrous pricing.

I think the problem is not what your offering it what your charging.I think i speak for many of us when i say that if we had that kind of money lying around it would be spent on equipment upgrades. storage, wich i for one desparetly need or buying scrap to resell. But not on a website that contains info that WE can find with a little research

Thanks. What do you think would be a fair price? We offer the same things our competitors do for alot less money as it is. I know that we mostly cater to yard owners and 99% of our subscribers are yard owners. Maybe I could put together custom packages for different types of customers. Is there anything you guys need but dont have? We are always adding functions and constantly develop new ideas for the website. I appreciate your advice.

I think that you hit it on the head. Your service/product is geared, built, and marketed toward yard owners. Individual scrappers would find very little benefit to the type of service that you are offering... ESPECIALLY at the price.
Only the yards would have the volume to benefit from shopping their materials across the country.

the most beneficial thing would probably be (atleast in my opinion):
-the spot market pricing on ferrous and non ferrous items (just for reference)
-a comparison of prices for each individual item at local competing yards... which can be done with a quick phone call.

I don't know how that would work out for your Bmodel though.

    respectfully.

Also, note that there are some big operators who frequent this site although they don't make their presence known. That's who this service would appeal to. I know one yard owner who, when I told him about this site, told me "Yes, I know." I asked if he knew I am a moderator for the forum and he said "There isn't much that happens around here in this business that we DON'T know about". But, as far as I know, he has never posted here. I imagine that dropping $700 wouldn't amount to a hill of beans for the owner there, considering what they pay me for my piddling pile of scrap.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Don't call Kris Kringle out of the saloon unless you want to end up on Boothill.

Thats adorable. I'm just looking for feedback which is why I posted. I've been given some great feedback from alot of folks here. In the rules section it is listed that you are not to bash other people. Perhaps you should read his posts within this thread. I don't have time to engage in any type of internet drama. I can't be your huckleberry but its a cute "old west" motif that you are using!
