    Orlando, FL Part Time Scrapper

    Hey Yall

My names Ryan I live in East Orlando, FL. I am a full time Mechanical Engineering student at UCF in my Junior year. For me, scrapping is something I just do in my free time for gas and beer money. I live about a mile from the main campus and harvest in this area. Live in a small apartment (with a fenced in backyard.. a plus), so dont have a TON of room to store my finds since the roommate isnt a HUGE fan of it. I've been harvesting from the curb mainly since I was about 9 years old, when I found a full computer system and I thought it was the coolest thing ever getting it for free and being able to use it.

On top of scrapping for cash, I also buy and sell Video Games. Any locals who find anything... hit me up, I will buy them off of you for a price that is fair for both of us.

I am also a "Tech Official" for Monster Jam. I travel with the company putting on shows, but now that our busy season is over (Had our World Finals a few weeks ago), I am turning to scrap to make up some of the difference... no way will I have enough time to be able to make enough scrapping to come close to what I made working for Monster Jam.

I've seen other locals posting on here in the immediate area. Namely Dunemaul, ScrapYaHerd. Be nice to meet yall someday. Maybe you have/will see my car around picking or at the yard. I have a ~20 year old lifted Black Tracker and a small flatbed trailer i pull with it for bigger loads.

I usually go to the scrapyard in Bithlo by SpeedWorld. Never tried the ones off Forsyth... will have to try that with my next load. Never thought of scrapping motherboards either. I buy computers, but to fix and resell as working systems, never for scrap before. Usually if I have something beyond repair, it goes in my shred pile, I never gutted them before. After reading some, feel like a bit of an idiot. Oh well, live and learn. I've got a few boxes of junk motherboards and about 15-20 towers sitting around to refurbish/scrap eventually.

Nice to meet yall look forward to meeting some of you in person in the future

Welcome to the forum rns and thanks for the intro and background. So after the show's over do they just dump all the squashed cars by your trailer? :]

I wish they'd leave me the cars. We don't actually even buy them... we rent them. Due to safety regulations and fire marshall requirements, batteries and gas tanks and all glass must be removed. Instead of buying all the cars, prepping them, smashing them then trying to offload them, we just "rent" them from the auto yards. they take out batteries, gas tanks and smash glass for us, and deliver them to our venue. We paint and crush, then they come pick up after the show for shred (we fork them onto their trailers and stack them 3-5 high). I'm not sure the EXACT amount we pay to rent cars as it varies city to city, but I believe it is somewhere around 100/car.

I got some old nes and sega games, as well as a system of each, interested? I use the yard near speedworld a good bit as I like the guys who operate the metals room, and enjoy being able to drive on a scale then chuck all my ferrous how I want instead of having to load a gaylord, I make about .01/lb less there but it's worth it for the stress relief. I also haven't seen you in my area although it sounds like we are real close, competition is tough around here lately. Welcome!

    Welcome to the forum!

I used to scrap in college for beer money as well. I found a great place to look was in the dumpsters of fraternity houses on weekends....tons of aluminum beer cans and the occasional broken kegs.

    Peace,
    Tom
