been lurking for a couple years, thought I'd sign up since I seem to make more trips to salvage yard. I'm a contractor by trade, in past I found it easier to just discard material but the prices make it worth stock piling. Make lots of mistakes, ie. yesterday had to bring 2 refrigerators home but didn't remove the pumps, big waste of time on my part especially since they were full of bolts and nails. Also should have removed the copper from 900 pound of electric motors got 16 cent a pound as they were. Just picked up an old barn restoration project including removing years of scrap, have hauled 37 ton so far figure there to be another 20, decided that it isn't worth the extra 50 dollars a ton to separate the light iron from number one it's not cost productive when paying help. Hope to learn some tricks of the trade.

Welcome to the forum.As far as motors,here in Peoria Il.one scrapyard is offering .32 a pound for them.

Boy, how do I say this politely? I don't think your going to learn much on here, if you don't see a money difference. $50. X how many ton.
With that much scrap you should have had the yard bring you a big roll-off to fill, then all you would of had to do was call and they would bring out a new one and take the full one away. Good luck in your future endeavors.

50 dollars a ton for number one-- probably 4 ton if I had separated and took stuff off vs. my cost for labor nearly 200 an hour, wasn't worth it! Not sure if the yard has roll offs have to check today now that I'm on last load.
