Hello from the Pittsburgh, PA area

My name is Sue, I am married with 2 kids. My scrapping partner is my 16 y/o son, my hubby us helps when we need it.

I have been scrapping for about 2 years, but got really into scrapping this year. I guess word of mouth has gotten out that I do it. I try to scrap basically anything I can.

I have learned alot from this site, from lurking, but want to learn more. But, I can't ask any questions, so I decided to join.

I am also hoping to find some local scrappers near the Pittsburgh area. I do know a scrapper in my town and we help each other out. Would like to help other people out if I am unable to do a pick up or know that I can't haul it. FYI, I drive a little 4 cylinder Tracker and tow my scrap in a little 4 x 6 trailer to go to the scrap yard. BTW, my towing is only 600 pounds, but I have towed 880 pounds in rotors to the scrap yard...once.

Welcome to the forum Sue. I reccommend you continue reading the old threads even the ones that don't seem to be of interest at this time. One thing I am certain of is you never know what you might run into. Having the knowledge before you run into a new type item will guide you as to what you should do with it.

One example has been the fire extingiushers I picked up a while back. If I hadn't read about other members recycling them I would not have stopped and got a pu truck full for free. Best of luck, Mike.

Thanks for the tip Mike, greatly appreciated.

Now you reminded to call a friend who works for a company that does testing on fire extinguishers.

    Hello Sue,

I'm your friendly neighborhood wire processor just down the 80 from you. If you come across large quantities of number one wire let me know and we can work out a price for you. We also can help you if you have a large wire deal and need help financing it.

    Welcome, Sue.

We're practically neighbors. I'm from out past Pittsburgh International, but most days I can be found in closer to the city, digging ditches. (Probably couldn't have guessed that, huh?) My scrapping is mostly what I dig up, or what I intercept before it gets hauled away in the dumpsters on the construction site...

HVP, most of my wires are stranded or out of motors. I hardly ever get #1.

Ditch, I will keep you in mind if I ever see anything posted on Craigslist or Freecycle that is your area. Is there a way to private message people in here? Just saw something from the Squirrell Hill area and not worth the trip for me, but maybe for you. I am actually about 30 minutes north of Pittsburgh, not far fom Route 28.

Thanks. I appreciate that. I usually keep an eye on CL, but not freecycle. And I'm in Squirrell Hill pretty often. Soon as I'm done here, I'm gonna look at CL and see if I can see what you saw. Although, since my truck costs me about 38 cents a mile, just for gas, I try not to go too far out of my way.

I'll keep you in mind as well.
