I just wanted to say a sincere "Thank You" for all the helpful info on SMF. I have been furiously taking notes and almost filled a notebook with all the great tips and advise.
I started scrapping last year by accident when my barn burned down. I lost almost every tool I owned, my late father owned and a lot that was my grandfathers. Lost 2 new 4-wheelers, riding mowers.... needless to say it painful. After all the insurance stuff, I was left with huge piles of
scrap metal. Started hauling load after load to the scrap yard and realized there was some good money in scrap. After that I started looking for more. I am a fleet manager for a trucking company and we always had a large scrap pile so I started hauling that. Thanks to SMF, I have picked up several other companies to haul from. It's like a treasure hunt! I'm loving it.
Just a tip, try hitting some smaller trucking companies and logging companies that have their own mechanics. There's thousands of them out there. We average per month 1 to 2 tons of hubs, brake chambers, wheels, trailer fenders etc..
Go get em....
