    Hello from The Steel City

    Hi,

I'm Irish and grew up in a Mill Town so there was never a shortage of empty cans laying around. My Dad was a part time bartender and would bring cans home in big bags for me when I was like 6 years old. I'd stomp them flat and save them until we had a pick up load.

A good friend of my Dad's owned the scrap yard. I was always allowed to look, roam, and generally explore all over. That was over 30 years ago. I learned what every metal looked like early. When your a kid a bucket of copper is a payday. The bug got me early and I've been a scrapper ever since.

More recently I worked at a guys house who buys catalytic converters, wheels, etc. He is making what I believe to be alot of money. I mean $20,000 a week. He's been doing it forever, not what you but who you know. So I started looking for an opportunity. It may be e-scrap.

I am here to learn. This site is great. So thanx to everyone who came before me and provided the opportunity to learn.

There is a scrap yard in almost every neighborhood in Pittsburg. You are never more than 15 minutes away from one. I think it is from the steel mills?

Ya i thought all the electronics were shredder at best.

    That's cause we rule!

I will tell you, one of my favorite quotes is something George Carville said a few years back. “Pennsylvania is Pittsburgh on one end, Philadelphia on the other, and Alabama in between.”

Figure I'd throw out a random quote.

Nice! Power supplies go to shred?

And did you snip the cables off of them?

And there's still more room in the bed of that truck!

I am in the process of working on one of those trucks loads now. I am putting a whole plan into action as soon as I get it up and running I will post it in its entirity here on the forum. I want to test results and have some numbers first though. I really feel my plan could be seriously profitable and easy for every member of the forum to use. Hello to all, and GO STEELERS.

They didn't go in shred, they went to a buyer for about .28 a lb. and that was after I clipped the wire flush. Yep, that was only about 800 lbs. total for boards, drives, and supplies.
