How to identify CPU heat sinks?

I was told that people successfully sell as parts on eBay aluminum CPU heat sinks. When I look at a hsink, I don';t see any markings of make/model/spec etc. How can I identify it, to make sure I can describe exactly what I am selling? I googled it but found no useful info.

The best way I know how is to identify the processor the heat sink was removed from.
