Does anyone have a sample ONE TIME Scrap contract.

We have a customer that wants to scrap a 1950's mobile home. This will be our largest scrap job to date. Just wanting to protect both parties and have in writing what her payout will be. Search feature didn't turn up much. Didn't know if anyone had a basic one time contract they use or where I could find something like that.
    Thanks Jason

Up here the scrapper/demo team charges about $500 to tear down a mobile home. A lot of trash inside to go to the landfill

Personally I do this on a percentage basis without contract. I ask for the title, return the scale ticket, and pay their percentage. Pretty simple. If you sort metal you have to decide how to separate ferrous from non ferrous and what percentage the owner gets. I scrap the vehicle/trailer and place all of the non ferrous in the vehicle/trailer. Then I take the non ferrous to the building and reweigh. I get the non ferrous payment separate from the ferrous and give the owner more than they expected because of the non ferrous metals. Just my strategy. [

This is an old mobile home he's asking about scrapping.
Being a 50's model, there is more real wood in there than chipboard.

This is how we will be doing it. Anything that would go to the landfill will be staying on site. This trailer is sitting on 300 acres in the middle of nowhere, property owner has someone else to dispose of this material. The Trailer is 100% intact including all the copper and axles.

Like I said in my OP this will be our largest scrap out to date. do I just need a simple statement saying what percentage she will be paid with both of us signing it? she has the title to sign over also

make sure you have it in writing that she is arranging for disposal of the trash, so no one can come after you for littering or dumping in the woods.

From the threads I remember, there isn't much money to be had when all is said and done. Why you're agreeing to a percentage to the owner is beyond me. You're doing her a favor. She should be paying for this service.

That's why I pass on mobile homes. I've been offered several - for free.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

have done several.........You almost have to charge especially doing it in the middle of nowhere.......You will need a generator at the least unless you plan on taking it apart with your bare hands (WOULD BE VERY IMPRESSIVE).......Plus saws, blades, perhaps even torches

It's a very low percentage, I'm a business if those of you that have been scrapping for a minute don't think we should do this, I will pass. I have a welding and fab biz and we stay busy and scrapping falls right into that field for me sense we have a mobile rig with all the right tools and several different trailers. This tread kinda went off coarse.. ohh well ..lol

I ran up against the same question you have when contracting work to be done in a sawmill. I was the sawmill owners rep so on the other side of the fence from what you are doing but the idea is the same.

What I ended up doing that seemed to work the best was to sit down and write what is called a "scope of work" where I described the work and what was the contractor's responsibility and what was the owners responsibility. It was usually pretty simple but the contractors liked it because they could see who was responsible for providing first aid, firewatch, cutting gas, who was to clean up, who supplied the dumpsters, how much insurance was required, when the job was to be deemed complete, etc, etc. Oh, and the dollar amount and when advances would be paid, etc.

It could be as detailed as you like. I usually did it in point form. The contractor signed it, I signed it, and we both worked off of it. You could have a witness sign it if you like.

Might not be like a contract you are used to but as long as you sign it and the owner signs it I think you would have something in paper to go from if a dispute ever arose.

Your mileage may vary....but hope this helps!

    Jon.

The only reason it went off course is cause we do not know you or the specifics of this gig. Don't know how well set up you are. We have had some do them by hand and that was a REAL JOB.

    ^^^^^^ Understandable
So knowing we have the right equipment, worth the trouble of scrapping?
    Thanks Jason

You probably wont make as much as you could with the same amount of time spent on a welding/fabricating job, but you should do ok. It will probably be fun anyway

This is true!!! but want to start diversifying our shop. Our mobile truck does not run as much as I would like, people are unwilling to pay for quality work these days and would rather take their chances on someone unqualified and unisured for a lower rate. And I refuse to lower my self to their rates, I have heard of guys charging $20 service call and repair and they pack up their little 110 .o25 fluxcore and spatter chicken S&$* all over said project, that wouldn't pay for my fuel and equipment overhead.
Our shop work stays very steady with Custom BBQ smokers and the odd ball fabrication build. I am a firm believer of one job leads to the next and word of mouth. Nothing ventured nothing gained
