@ focker I have to get a DOT physical every year because they say I am pre-diabetic. Which I think just means my blood sugar is too high.
@ kbob, it doesn't matter what you haul, junk or flowers. If you are a commercial hauler over 10,000lbs, you need USDOT numbers. Now that's in SD. In ND you don't need USDOT numbers. Also in SD you gotta have fire extinguisher, emergency triangles, annual inspection on truck, log book, yada yada, yada if you plan on crossing state lines. Oh, and don't forget your trip permit. You need a $15 permit going out and a $15 permit coming back. Now, if you are engaged in agriculture, you don't need any of those things.
I could be all wrong, but that's the way the trooper at the weigh station explained it to me while he was writing tickets, and giving me a full body cavity exam.
I purposely kept my rig, truck and trailer under 26,000 lbs., because over 26k, then it really gets ugly. IFTA, And whatnot.
