    100,000 + low grade boards

    Hi!

A friend and myself recently came into possession of a old house tv repair shop. This place has easily over 100,000 low grade (from what I have researched) circuit boards. It will take me to the turn of the next century to strip them of the aluminum and copper. Any suggestions?

Is there a recycler anywhere near Maryland I can take them too? Should I push through and strip the copper and aluminum?

    Any advise is greatly appreciated!!!

Hi and welcome to the forum from Las Vegas! That's a good number of tv boards! Lots of forum members, myself included, would be happy to buy them from you as is. Do you have pictures?

Take some pics of all the various ones and different types (not all 100,000 of them obviously but a sampling of ones that may seem "different" or stick out, or are different colors or whatever).... Just drag and upload them to imgur and put the link in here and we can see them then

Definitely dont strip them yourself or anything. A load that size you'll want to ship off to a buyer on here. If we say its 1lb/board on average, or 100k lbs total, and they are all truely low grade boards, you are looking at like ..... $26,000 ..... just FYI.... spend some time, get some quotes from various places and dont just jump on getting rid of this.

If they are from TVs and are green boards, they may be mid grade boards meaning you could be looking at $100k here.... take some time before doing anything with these, move them into and pay for a storage unit if you have to

If you had the time to count the boards then you have the time to prepare those boards.

Posting the same thing in multiple threads is not going to help either.

What the others were saying about shipping out by the gaylord -or- having a recycler come in and do the work is your best advise.

You wouldn't want to strip out the boards for a few reasons:

1: Lots of labor ... too much in fact.

2: The old boards have lead solder. It's a good chance to get lead poisoning if you do enough of that kind of work.

3: A solid chunk of the value in those boards is in the copper traces.

4: You would have to get rid of the stripped boards somehow. Seeing as there's lead and other heavy metals present .... it would probably be considered toxic waste.

Hand loading and unloading tens of thousands of pounds of circuit boards is wildly laborious and *very* time consuming, leaving aside that you couldn't fit by volume nor weight 100000 circuit boards in the back of a box truck. You'll need gaylords on pallets. Everything will be much faster and easier on both shipping and receiving ends that way rather than loading loose material in a truck which, again, for small material you never ever want to do in any volume. Once you post some pictures we can give better guidance.
Box truck, 100,000 boards at a minimum 1 pound each is gonna be at least a couple of semi trailer loads.

If each board had on average a pound of copper, he has 100,000 times today's copper price and he's worried about sorting a few boards. he be sitting on a quarter of a million dollars so why is he wasting time bragging about it on a scrap forum. Sheesh, I still say his claim is totally BS.

Yes, I am having the most difficult time trying to upload pictures.

I go to insert picture on the site and it asks for a URL.

    go here https://imgur.com/upload

drag the pictures from your computer onto that website. it will upload and give you a URL

then paste the url it gives you into here

if you are doing it from a phone, it wont let you use that website (they want you to download their app instead..... but.... if using a phone and not a computer let us know we'll figure out another day)

You'll have to wait until you have ten posts in the forum first. Otherwise just use a 3rd party host like instagram or imgur and post a link here.

10 posts is a myth. I have seen MANY people post pics using imgur on their FIRST post. They knows what they were doing.

    This is my first post

edit: you cannot post picture right away

    you get this error:

"An error has occurred ilovekittens26! Sorry, you're not allowed to post links yet.

    "

FYI tried using the "Insert Image" button which asks for a third party url, to embed the picture. That does not work on a new account since it considers it a link for some reason....but you can just paste the url in here

Think the 10 posts is about uploading directly to the site.
