I seem to get quite a few inkjet printers. I'm curious why Staples offers credit on the cartridges. Is there some gold or other precious metal in the contacts, both on the cartridge and on the printer cartridge slots? Is there anything of particular value in the white ribbon/wire that connects the printer to the cartridge slots? I've been throwing all these into a separate bin until I get more information. Any help is appreciated!

I have been collecting ink and laser cartridges for a little while now. As far as I know there is no metal value to them, although I have never taken them apart, could be a little copper?? Not sure.
Staples, and other stores offer this credit in order to get the empties and have them refilled, or re-manufactured to sell again as an off brand, cheaper cartridge.
There is another thread or two on here, but not a whole lot of information in them.
I suggest selling them as empties there, are some websites, toner buyer.com( thread on them as well) or you could find a local refill shop and see if they maybe interested in them. I have a store owner calling me today to see about selling her a hundred or so.
What types do you have and where are you located?
I'm in south GA. I usually just get inkjet printers, very few laser printers. Been reading a bit on the intertubes and found there there is some gold in the contacts, the white ribbon cable is aluminum. I may as well max out my Staples allotment with the cartridges, but the contacts from the printer won't take up much space at all.

They recycle them you can sale them for money to inkjet stores or sale them on ebay.

I did just line up a buyer for mine yesterday, she bout $100 worth from me, of injet cartridges, I still have roughly $60 worth of laser cartridges I'm going to send to tonerbuyer.com, and another $20 worth of inkjets that have already been refilled that staples will still give me $2. Credit on.
Imo there is some decent money to be made.in them if you line up a regulations collection spot or have a steady flow of them.
If I were you I would get a few together and check with a local refill shop. Never hurts to ask.
***update&*** going to pick up my check in half an hour, but I let her talk me down a little, but still made 3 times as much as toner buyer.com was offering for them. But now I know what cartridges she needs and what she doesn't want. So that's not bad information guess that's worth the $25 I let her talk me down.

I did, they just opened one up near me. I called a couple weeks ago and spoke to an employee (she was the only person there) and she was like No we cant buy them, we only offer in store credit on refills...yeah yeah what ever... so I got what I had and went in to meet the owner...
Like I let her low ball me a little, but now I have a much better idea of which cartridges she wants, so it just the cost of doing business I guess.
