    little piece, big money

    [IMG][/IMG]

This little piece retails for $2.00 at the hardware store and around a buck at wholesale type places.
Took about 1 minute to make with a pair of needle nose pliers, which is good because I need a lot of them.
internet bonus points if you can guess what it is used for.

I was curious of the size, but had a fair idea of size from knowing where the material came from to make it and that it was formed with a needle nose pliers.

What do I win?!?!?! some syrup?

NO just kidding. We go through a gallon every month or so at my house(6 kids and they all love the pancakes). My friend's son sugars thats where we get it from. I always wanted to try it and the 7 acres next to me is a wooded lot with sugar maples and birch. The owner is a real s@#thead and won't let anyone in them. but I have one or two on my property I might give it a try with.

LOL you guys are a riot.
I also made some bucket lids out of some random pieces of sheet metal scrap and a piece of galvanized I had laying around.
Beat up rusty sap buckets, lids, ext go for a good bit of money, New equipment is unreal. To keep this hobby on the cheap I tend to take all the parts tossed to the side at other operations and give them new life. Takes some work but worth the effort when it comes down to final boil, sugar on snow party and maple candy and prelene.... MMM MMM
My land was once an old sugar orchard and then cut for lumber growth. They never logged, now I reap the benefits of someones hard work many years ago.
Oh and if you guys ever run across the old Cast spiles (taps)... I would be interested to say the least. Hard to come buy and the guys that have em don't give em up.

Darn. I was going to guess, "curtain hook for your outdoor shower." At this point I am going to have to assume you are showering outdoors, sans curtain... You will be difficult to sneak up on.

The loop would fit nicely on your pointer finger and the length from top of the loop to the bottom of the hook is around 3 inches. pretty small piece of metal to be paying $2.00 a pop locally.
made 46 total, took a little over an hour. 3 per handle 4 if you cut it close but I like to have a little extra working material. could have made simple ones but would rather over build them and not find my buckets on the ground empty. sap is a finite resource every drip counts
five gallon bucket handles would work too but I prefer to leave those in place.
