So my wife and I were out picking up some new scrap items. We got a few old lawn mowers some bed frames and a weed Wacker with the tip cut off. It was basically a long metal pole with a moter on the end. We were driving her car so there wasn't a whole lot of room in the back. As I go to close the hatch the weed Wacker shifted and I closed the hatch on the pole. Two seconds later I am standing in a big pile of broken glass. A small $5 gain just cost me $300 for a new rear window. My wife's response, "looks like you have a lot more scrapping to do today"

ouch! who knows, if you'd been across the road you might have been getting ran over instead

If it makes you feel any better, I blew through 3 rear windshields this year on my Dakota. First one my helper put a pipe through. Guess he didn't realize the pipe was bigger than my 6 ft bed. Second one same exact thing, but I did it. Third time was just 2 days ago. Had a load of steel studs from the office building I been scrapping for 2 months. Well the studs wernt touching the windshield, till I started cinching it tight with the straps. The straps pulled it tight down and one piece right into the window. Funniest thing is the window didn't break till I hit I81N and the body, bed, and chassis started flexing. **** window blew out 10 miles down the road. Scared the **** out of me. Felt and sounded like a shotgun went off. And it was one of those things were you couldnt see the stud touching the window.

So I feel your pain my friend. Im out a lil over 500 in glass and install fees this year lol.

1st thing, learn how to do it yourself. I had a cousin who used to do body work, and heard him talking about using a piano wire, not sure now though if he was talking about putting it on, or taking it off. Another thing, find scrappers who deal in your windows ; )

I had just fixed my truck after years of sitting and loaded it with a good load of scraps a few bikes piled up and found something that I needed to push some of it forward and the rest you can guess the bikes touched up on the window and shattered my back window on the first day out with my truck. I also went out to retrieve an item after a torrential rainstorm someone coaxed me to buy thinking it was worth it. I headed through some pretty washed out roads only to get a couple bbq grills. When I was leaving my van fell into a huge rut which I had to get pulled out. Needless to say my front end is pretty jacked up all for a few dollars of aluminum I learned my lessons. Plexiglass is what I am going to find.

Get a used window when some young river snapper bricked my window i got someone to come to my house and install the window all for a 100 bucks including parts it was a back window for a ford winstar.

That's what insurance is for . I have glass coverage on all my vehicles.

I protect my rear window with a piece of grillwork. If that's not enough, I could get new windows with steel wire in the glass.

sorry to hear the bad luck.. but what comes around in bad comes back in 7 folds of good luck.. perhaps a small trailer would be a best for you guys... good luck... and again Luck on your side..

i have nation wide i pay 60 bucks a month 0 deductible on glass and just basic insurance as my truck 97

I buy parts from my glass guy installed izuzu glass 100-120 my bad year though brakes 1800$ driver window shattered drivingvdown the road 100$ spider injector went 700$ heater core lines 300$ plugs wires 90$ and now rrans may go parts 700 install 300-400

My first year experiance had my izuzu blow a tire and take out the fuse box 250$ tow+ parts n labor 950.00 shop guys remember me everytime now lol

yeah plexiglass or a sheet of plywood to put up against the cab window
