    Recycling night curb stops?

I had an idea, let me know what you all think. Our town has free recycling for plastics glass and aluminum and I believe it goes out every other week. People often put them out in 5 gallon buckets and small drums. If I drove around on recycling nights and dumped the ones filled with a majority of aluminum cans into my truck to sort them in the barn. I would recycle the non metal for free, at the recycling center. If I was going someplace anyway and did this, as to no waste diesel, would it be a waste of time?
    Thanks ,

your town uses that for a revenue, they get paid for those cans, therefore you would be taking from your town, probably goes to parks and recreation, and as far as a waste of time i guess it would depend on how you like a 4x8 with bars

Depending on if your city contracts out to a private hauling company (i.e. Waste Management, Republic, ect.) it could be illegal. Whatever waste is inside the waste container is technically property of the waste hauler and is illegal to take. Anything next to the cans are free to take. This is how it is in my area. It could be different for your area.

Also, just don't take from recycle bins. It takes money away from the city, and most people upset when all of their recyclables magically disappear. I know I would.

I had an idea to do this in my neigborhood. The post office has this program called EDDM stands for every door direct mailing. Send out a flyer that says you will pay say $.25 a pound and you will collect them every sunday night. On the flyer have the name and number and have them call you if they would like to use your service. Then just get all the people who answered your flyer put into a route you can drive on a sunday night with your rolls of quarters. Drive around weigh and pay. This is an ida I had for a small business for my daughter to make gas money for herself. Havnt tryed it yet but its an idea none the less.

im an "as needed" helper for a small trash company. His contract with the dump says that all the recyclables in the bins have to be brought to them. Luckily, scrap metal isn't listed in the contract and is not on the recycling flyer. His opinion is that anything i take that would normally cost him money to dump, is fine with him. he could do scrap himself, but he likes have me available to help.

Not much on scrap advise. Learning myself. Legal and engineering are my areas.
If it is in their recycle container it is the city's. If it is laying next to it. It is fair game.
