Is it worth the trip?

I had gotten a phone call from a hotel that is looking to get rid of 350 25 inch tv's. But my only issue is that its about 50 miles from me. My brain is telling me to go and pocket is wondering if its going to be worth it in the long run between gas and time. Can somebody please give me some input as to what I should do

what kind of vehicle do you have? If you have a truck, think about renting a U-Haul trailer for a day. The trucks are expensive, but the trailers are usually a flat $20-$30 fee, unlimited mileage. Get the largest pull behind you can get, and load that sucker up! (truck too!)
350 will be a LOT of room though. probably won't get it all in one trip, but I bet you could get more than enough each trip to be profitable! Where are you going to store them in the mean time too? Hope you got room! Good find though!

heck... 350 tv's? I bet most of them work... could throw an ad on craigslist and go below market value and could get rid of them fast... or at least a few of them

if you could re sell them then ok if not I don't think you will cover...

Definitely didn't think about renting the trailer. I could find the room for storage without a problem. My dad's uncle has a shop, just have to ask if I could use it and if they need the space for a while. I have a 4cyl 94 Ranger but its strong I took a 980lb load to the yard with no problems, well besides it was a lot slower than normal but I think I'd rather use my dads truck for this particular job if I go, a Ram 1500 with a 5.2 in it. That was the last call I was ever expecting mostly because I didn't advertise to any hotels. Apparently where I put one of my fliers, the maintenance guy and a manager were at a hotel on business near me and stopped in the store and pulled one of the rip-off tabs off and decided to call me.

The manager just text me he said 296 work and the other ones are broke, do I take the ones that are broke? He said if I didn't want them they will recycle them.

I've looked on CL and did some research, a lot of TV's that size are running about $25-$35 each in my area. I'm now thinking $20 each just to get rid of them and make some decent money. To rent the trailer is $53(looking at it now) and for gas to fill my dads truck about $90-$95. Probably burn about a 1/4 on the way back so all in all it'll cost me roughly $200 to make about $5k

I don't mess with tv's, as scrap not worth it.. Your going to be left with a lot of garbage and glass to get rid of. I'm sure if you sold them at $20 a piece you would sell a few but nowhere near 350.. If I were you I'd be thinking about what you need to do to get a better scrap truck, maybe something bigger or something that doesn't struggle with 960 lbs.

It sounds like a couple trips easy. 350 tv's is a lot of space and weight. Do they have them all stored right now? If they do, see if the manager can tell you what kind of space it is currently taking up. could give an idea of how much space you need to store, and how many you could move at one time.

Are you going with the Uhaul 6x12 utility trailer? It can handle 2100 pounds. If each tv is say 20 lbs, the trailer could hold (by weight) 105 tvs. With some in the truck bed, you're looking at 3 trips, if you can stack 105 tvs in the trailer.

It is definitely worth it in my opinion. Does anybody have a rough idea from experience what kinda copper weight you get from a 25" tv?

Wow. the logistics could be crazy. Too bad you are not in the same town as them.

First thing that pops into my head is to make sure that you get some documentation from these guys that says they gave them to you. It will save you a lot of time if someone reports you because they think you ended up with a truck full of stolen TVs.

Other than that, I say go for it. I like the idea of selling as many as you can. Especially if you can move some of them close to where they are right now. Are there any pawn shops in the area? I would call some and see if they are interested. Maybe you could move a half a dozen each to a few different stores. Worth a shot and a few minutes worth of phone calls.

How much of a hurry are they in? Do you have helpers that you know that you can hire for $10 bucks an hour . I think labor will be a big issue.

Space is crazy. I don't know how many 25 in. TVs I could fit in the bed of my truck, but I'll bet that it isn't very many. Those things take up some serious space. Depends on the age of them.

I am going to get some popcorn. This sounds like fun.

Just found this dusty gem, and was wondering what the outcome was. I unfortunately made it the whole way to the end of the thread before noticing that it was over a year old, and now I'm curious.

I ended up passing on the deal.

Yeah, I can see why. Even at only $10 each, it would take me forever to move 300 televisions. I don't even think it would be possible in my rural area. I'd hate to send all those good tv's to scrap for only a fraction of their working value.
