Medical Oxygen Cylinders

Any idea what they would be made of and how you could sell them

They are made from metal typically. You could sell them whole or in pieces but you would need to locate a buyer.

My mother and my father inlaw are both on oxygen. The tanks are Alum. Only problem are that they are marked. Stamped into the alum. Other oxygen companies will not even take the old ones that my mom has left from another company.

I found an o2 bottle thrown out behind the recycling center where someone tossed it when they were emptying the bins. This one has a sticker with the company name on it and it is aluminum. Nice and shiny too, I'm going to try and peddle this to the o2 company's in our area. They can buy it off me cheaper than they can buy a new one.

I just turned two of those in last month, went and checked the ticket and it was bought as 301 SS solids. got 3 bucks for two small ones from those carry around oxygen tanks.

i have a dozen O2 tanks now. three of them are steel, the other 9 are AL. they have large nickel plated brass valves in them and they were given to me by a government account i picked up recently. they failed their annual inspection or whatever so they are no good for resale. i asked my yard and because they are only O2, they do not need to be punched. only bled of pressure. i would like to figure out a way to remove the brass valve entirely. i cut one flush with the tank top, and its acceptable for sale, but i would like to get all the brass i can. short of pinching it under my truck tire and using a pipe wrench, im at a loss for how to remove the valves.

Have a work bench that will allow you to hook a ratchet strap to? Last time I took a valve off I put it on my shop table. Being a welding table it has angle iron under to hook to. Hook one end, then loop it around the tank and hook onto the other side of table, then cinch it down. For maximum tension you'll want the strap coming off the top, and down to the sides of the table.

If you have room, use 2 straps, otherwise it will try to twist and come undone. The tank I had was too small to use 2 straps, but I managed.

Filthy's right. They make both. Steel and aluminum. I used to deliver these things for a living. Some are stamped, some have stickers. Didn't know the yards would take em tho. Not to hijack your thread, but on a similar note, what about acetylene,argon, and welding oxygen tanks? Will they take those also if they are cut open?

you'd have to ask your yard. i always ask about strange items at the desk before i bring them in. im gonna try those rachet straps off the table. thanks tater, bro!

Well, took your advice and asked my yard today. They said they would take them , but all cylinders had to be cut in half long ways. Idk. Sounds like alot of candy for a nickle.
