    Stainless Steel Grille

Has anyone ever taken in one of these things? I know I will be paid per pound for it, but trying to determine if it is worth the trip.

Might sound odd, but never have gotten a stainless steel grille before. Every other kind, but not like this.

If it isn't worth my time, I am just going to pass it to a fellow scrapper.

Anything wrong with it? If not, throw it on CL for $100 or so.

As for worth it...that's up to you. Grills have been covered several times.

    I break everything down.

Well I would probably break it down too. It doesnt fully work. They said something was wrong with it.

Just seeing how much it should weigh if I just turn in as is.

Really George, grills take me about 10 minutes to break down. But if you have better things to do, then by all means take it in as is.

At minimum, take the brass valves off.

I see were having another blonde moment or two today scrapping wise...maybe you should work on the investment thing for the rest of the day George. BTW, they are almost as easy to fix as they are to take apart.

I realize it doesn't take but a few minutes, as I do it with other grilles, but I am simply curious to know what it might weigh without doing anything at all to it.

It is just a simply curious question. Don't see why everyone is making such a big deal about it.

I would have to think it would weigh the same all together as it would broken down! You would just have different piles but they would all add up ......

Your web site makes it look as if you have a big company with a great deal of experience but your posts seem to show that you are just learning yet.

I think KZ was pointing out how easy those grills are to fix so that you might consider looking into repairing it for a much better profit.
Most times a $15.00 burner will do the trick.

Not a big company. Just to many scrappers around here that take things without authorization. Plus, I also like dealing mainly with business as they bring in good, profitable loads all the time, but most want to deal with a company, not just an individual. Therefore, I built a website, registered a business, and so on that I have done since I was young.

I have a good amount of experience in what I do, but as with any job, I am always learning. I have learned quite a lot since I have joined this forum.

Unfortunately, I get the impression that people think that because I do own and operate a scrapping business, that I should know everything.

No one expects you to know everything, but some of the questions you ask really confound me.

Can you lift the grill? What is your best estimate that it weighs?

Around here you would probably get dirty SS price which last I checked was .20 a lb. Clean was .80/lb

BTW, does a magnet stick to it?

I am still waiting for the guy to get back in touch with me. This was from a CL post. Looked interesting at the time, since as I mentioned, never came across one before.

If I had to guess, I would say maybe 150, 200 tops. I have lifted others before just like it, but not a stainless steel one.

Yeah, I will call the yard tomorrow, but you are right that it would be dirty. Granted, I would break it down, but even then the majority of it would still be there.

Yeah, it is. Figured that would happen. However, normally as long as I can email (when there is no number present) an ad before it is deleted, then normally I always get contacted later on to remove something for the people. Not always, but sometimes.

No way you would ever turn that in as dirty. Easy break down. Some of the stainless is maganitc, but the rest is good. As said remove the brass, seperate other metals... thats what we do... Not always, but sometimes!

Oh Lord, GeorgeB....I'm starting to like you in spite of myself.....(at least one of you). Not always, but sometimes. You have definitely added something to the forum....not sure what yet. People just don't don't like "know-it-all's" and for someone who freely admits that he is learning, you DEFINITELY come across as one. Try not to get defensive...I'm just trying to help you fit into this dysfunctional family. The fact that you've stayed around this long means something. Haven't figured that one out either !! You've taken more hits than anyone since I've been on board and I expected you to be gone by now. So, maybe we can learn to be kinder.....not always, but sometimes !

My suggestion George is to run your numbers or think twice about your text before you post...too many inconsistencies and some of us can see right thru you. Not a personal attack just a reality check.

I through out the mentality of caring what anyone ever thought about me in high school. One thing I learned from my ex grandmother in law, was that life is to da** short to care what anyone thinks of you. Sure, I can do a heated discussion, and sometimes I will be right, and other times I will be wrong.

I apologize for coming off as a "know it all" though. Truth is, none of us on here know everything. You will always be learning and that is the thrill of life. If I, or anyone else knew everything, it would get pretty boring.

I just don't let people get to me. It is just the net, and even if it was real life, I still just let it roll off my shoulders.
