One hour photo places take the batteries out of one time use cameras. there is also a little circut board and wire in them. a guy took his apart for scrap i guess, and it sparked on him when he ripped out the stuff. He didnt take the battery out. I thought what a moron. As being a scrapper watching him in the store.

If it was a flash one time use camera they have a pretty powerful capacitator in them and that is probably what got him. You can hear the capacitor humm/whirr and charge up after you take a picture with one of them.Originally Posted by greytruck
My father is an HVAC tech and told me a story about how he learned the hard way not to store capacitators in the same pants pocket as a AA battery. He had replaced an old capacitator on a furnace and put the old one in his pocket after discharging it. About 3 hours later he got one hell of a shock right where you don't want to get a shock! He figures the loose AA battery in his pocket much have charged the capacitator somehow.

I think your Dad thought he discharged the cap. but it still had a charge. There is no way a 1.5 volt battery could charge up a 240 volt cap enough to do any thing.

Thanks for the info..I knew they were lead-acid, but oddly I have never dealt with them much as I hardly ever use anything with single use batteries. I have brought them to battery plus locations a couple of times. My local battery buyer wants car batteries ( I get the stink eye with motorcycle batteries), never asked about single use. My rural customer is wanting to avoid an $18/mo. fee for single use battery recycling that W.M. is demanding. I will accept them and find a more inclusive battery buyer. Still learning (slowly I'm afraid)...

save up a few hundred pounds of them and just bring them in with the auto batteries. IN A BOX, usually even a hard ass will buy them then.

I used to put my dry cell batterys in my oldschool Nicad battery charger for 10 mins & it would give them a boost.
The akalines were best & I would stay around as they charged because they can get hot & burst/explode if left in there too long.
