$7000 refrigerator! what to do?

I get a call to remove a fridge yesterday. Don't really think anything about it. Get there this thing is HUGE, get it loaded, get home and plan on cutting it up in the morning. I google the part # and find out they sell for lowest $6k! Now everything works but the freezer, so I need some advice on what I should do. Try and sell for repair on CL(how much should I ask?), or find a appliance buyer?

Check with some used appliance stores to see if they would be interested in it. I get more than a few of them in and most of them are scrapped right away either because they are too specialized (ie: need to be built into custom cabinets) or have too many re-occuring expensive problems.

+1 on that. Places that repair it or sell them would pay.
I have to ask, is it a Sub Zero? Those usually go for the big bucks.

JPete its not sub zero. Freonjoe the guy said he had got it fixed twice, so it did have re occurring problems and he got tired of putting money in it. Thanks for the quick opinions, I don't usually get high price items so I froze up(pun intended) I'll list it on CL for$ 2500 and see what happens and check with buyers. If I can turn this into me getting a trailer that would make my year.

If it were me, I would look into getting it repaired. The fact it was repaired twice (for the same problem I am assuming) could be due to an incompetent tech. I picked up a 2 door freezer from a Blimpie a few years ago. Guy told me that his tech said it needed something...new compressor? I don't recall, anyways I took it to my guy and it needed a line dryer if I remember right. So about $200 later I had it back and turned it for $1,500.

You might also put in your ad that you're looking to trade for a trailer. Who knows, maybe someone is sitting on a trailer they don't use and needs a fridge.

Idaho, it may be a bad repair or a design flaw in the refrigerator itself (ie: GE profile refrigerators blowing the motherboards when they short cycle). A good used appliance store could give him a heads up or he could post the info here to see if anyone has had experience with that model.

That's a good idea putting a trailer trade up. Its a kitchenaid kssc48fts. I used to put in my ads I don't take refrigerators till recently. I didn't think people would pay to get them gone. Guess some people are a little more financially stable than me cause I have to do stuff myself. I took a autobody class to keep from having to pay someone to paint my car.

It sounds like it is your evaporator fan. If the fridge part is cooling and the freezer isnt than that is probably the issue. I usually sell my broken machines but, if it is the evap fan on a fridge I will repair and sell working.

I got a nice subzero fridge with wood paneling in working condition for free. I think it retailed at like 4-5 thousand. I listed it for $1400 then $800 then $400 then finally sold it for about $200. You might be able to sell it for the price you are asking but, it might take awhile to find a buyer. The dilemma is that it is a fridge for wealthy people and wealthy people aren't going to buy a used fridge when they need one, they are going to buy a new one. Middle class people would like to have the fridge but, when there are other fridges cheaper they will go for a the good working fridge for $200.

There are buyers out there but, be patient. I meant to ask if it is black or stainless steel? those go for more and you will be able to sell it quicker, at least around here.

Heres a couple more options you could call around to appliance repair shops and find one that wants it for parts or to repair and resell it. Or part it out yourself. I dont see many parts on the market for that model so you could make a killing.

Its stainless. I thought about parting it but like you said parts are scarce and I couldn't get a good idea of what to ask. I think I can give it a month to sell or find a buyer, then it will be parted and scrapped. Im happy cause either way its profit. Its got alot of copper, wire and stainless.

If its stainless you should be able to sell. Hopefully there are few scratches and dents. I sell appliances all of the time to used appliance stores and the most important thing is the appearance of the unit: newer, no dents, no scratches, stainless a plus, black a plus, all the drawer are there, and handles present. They dont really seem to care too much about about working or non-working. They probably have the spare part laying around to fix it no problem. I would call around and let them know what you have. They wont pay full price for it because they have to sell also but, its another option.
