This post is about scrap, funny you should post in "more than scrap value" forum. Scrap is scrap, whether it's rusted tin or computer boards.
Just my opinion, but more than scrap means more than scrap, and is always my first thought pertaining to anything. There's an obvious separation point, such as rusted tin, it's obviously not very recyclable, and it goes quickly into the "scrap" pile.
As this post, as well as all replies till now, is about mere scrap, I think you have missed a grand opportunity to be doing more than merely scrapping. There was a previous thread pertaining to differing levels of scrapping, but none there seemed to fit into the realm of primarily recycling with more of an intent to see more in an items future than a place along side the rusted tin, and that thread got closed, sad. There was a time when we as a nation were stronger, a time when sayings such as "use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without" were a part of everyday life, and not just a fading memory. If it's all about more money, that's sad too. Oh well! Much as the thread, and too many other things, fading memories.
This was a professional arena scoreboard. Did you consider the number of schools, colleges, clubs, churches, local communities, etc., etc., that might have found it an enormous benefit, maybe even a dream come true? Even just a small part of it?
I certainly can't say I've never scrapped anything that couldn't have done very much better elsewhere, and it makes me no better, or much different, just sayin, missed opportunities such as these don't come along very often
