Caught Me A BIG One Today

This was sort of a weird deal.

A while back I bid on a item in Govdeals. I was the high bidder, but was under their reserve price.

They called me Monday and asked me if I was still interested in it.

I guess as a seller they retrieved my number off of Govdeals.

I told them I was, but I was not willing to go higher on my bid.

He told me they had re-listed it and that it did not sell again and that I could have it for only the buyers premium that would have had to have been paid if it had sold for their reserve price. That amount was just under $50.00.

So, I just bought a Kardex Lektriever Series 80 for less than fifty bucks.

The model I bought is is 11 feet long, 8 feet high and 4 feet deep. It weighs 3800 pounds.

New in 2002 it was bought by the University for over $30.000

We are going to attempt to dismantle it and put it back together.

    Looking up at the machine.

There may a million better places to live than Iowa, but none of them are home!

Winner, winner chicken dinner. Wish govdeals would call me on some pallets of computers I never seen to win. Nice score

lucky you! ; ) gsa once did me just the opposite. It's proxy bidding too, and I entered the max offer I would go, if other bids required it, but they didn't, and I won the (no reserve) auction below my max. They looked at my winning bid, but liked my max better, and said since they felt their items were worth more than the winning price, but they would accept my maximum bid. I felt that woulda been ok if opposing bids had required it, but they hadn't. I turned em down, and later saw the same lot with a higher minimum(my previous max ; )

It wasn't GSA that contacted me. It was the seller. I just got back from their office.
They were just fed up with dealing with GSA. I guess they are having issues with GSA.
It is looking like I may have got me another customer out of this deal.

What I need to do now is find some paper on the machine so that i can disassemble it without tearing it up.
It is in perfect condition. I have a host of friends who are a lot smarter than I am and they are all going back with me Monday to do an assessment of the machine and the layout.
It will certainly have to be at least partially dismantled.
It is 8 feet tall. I would get my money in scrap out of it, buy it would blow that out of the water if I could keep it operational.
I called the company in Switzerland, but I could not get anyone to speak English.
I called a girl at another college in town here that speaks French and German.
She is going to call them Monday for me and see if we can get a PDF of the manual sent to me.
I have 1 week to get my s*#t together.
we are removing it over Labor Day weekend.

i thought yours was through gov deals
looks like they'd have manuals where it's at, have you asked them? (I'm guessing you have)
I also thought phone centers in western europe were better prepared to cross language barriers. I knew a woman working at an HP printer place there and they were required to speak mulitple languages, I think she spoke about 6

My initial bid was through GovDeals. I was later contacted by the seller when the Kardex did not sell because I was lower than the "reserve" even though I was the highest bidder. Then the school contacted me themselves. They said GovDeals was a PTA...lol
Also I did not call a call center. I called the manufacturing plant itself. The lady I spoke to did speak English, but the guy I needed talk to spoke French and German.
