I just yesterday sold ten pounds of copper from CRT degaussing cable on ebay for $49. After shipping and their expenses, it cleared $3.25 a pound. I thought about it and have concluded that the buyer bought it for craft projects. My wife is a scrapbooker and crafter. She saw the pile of copper sitting on the table and commented how pretty it is. She has already "appropriated" the 30+ pounds of copper sheet I got at a storage unit auction.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

yes its a great thing about ebay and our business that I love is that if a part board wire or so forth is not valued that much for scrap always put it on ebay and someone usually buys it I sell a lot of things I might normally throw away and a few bucks here and there add up fast and its fun to do

My guess is he's deducting the value of the 30 lbs of copper sheeting at the value you quoted (3.25/lb). But we'll see how close to correct I am when he chimes in.

copper wire/ turnings is also good for gardeners to make more than scrap, there are many "slug shields" that are basically a ball of copper wire you place around the base of a plant stem or around a pot base. The other business sells these homemade 1/8 lb slug deterrents for $20 for 8 or tada $20 a lb

way to use ebay to make some better than scrap money Mick.
edit: thin wire will not work, thicker wire preferably with rough edges seems to do the trick though. Not exactly sure why the slugs can pass small wires but turn around instantly they get on the bigger stuff.

Oh, ok. You're talking about the loss on the 30 pounds of sheet like billygoat said. That should actually turn out better than $3.25/lb. She's talking about using it to create mural-like stuff with the patterns that came with it.
Happy wife happy life. Who would have thought one could sell copper on ebay think of the gas you saved

Never thought about ebay for selling scrap. I think I am going to toy with the idea and do some experimenting in the days to come.

Mick, thanks for the info. I am actually just starting to check out ebay. I listed a couple items on ebay this morning. Had some old records that I had no use for. Lot of 12. 5 are pretty popular lps the other 7 are groups I've never heard of. Thought I would list them together and for a set price. The 5 have listed seperatly for at least 4 dollars each. Thought I would take a shot at hoping someone would want 2 or 3 of the popular ones. And instead of paying seperate shipping on each, they can buy what they want plus I get rid of my junk for a low price, and make a few bucks as well. Never used ebay before, but I think I am going to like it.

have sold copper on ebay several times.........After fees etc I think I usually came out even or a little ahead of what the yard would pay

Copper wire is almost predominantly used in the wrapping of Cabs or tumbled stones and can easily fetch more than scrap value if you can make a good connection.
