    Empire Safe!!!

Hey, what's up fellow scrappers?! Just picked up an Empire safe from a travelling agency going out of business.
Ironically, the scrap yards don't take whole safes, though I have the combination. So what I'm wondering, since it's over 1,000
lbs, is this: what is the most affordable cutting tool I could use to break it down? It's a great safe but TOO heavy to be lugging around
looking for buyers. I have it on Craigslist already and recieved a few hits already, but nothing serious.

they wont take them because most of them are not solid steel. The have concrete or fire proof stuff in them.

Yeah, Matt is right, most of the ones I've had were double walled with fireproof concrete or even worse, asbestos. You're on the right track selling on craigslist even if you have to go below scrap steel price.

You would think that a traveling company would have the ability to take it with them.

Selling it as is would be the best route. If you can sit on it until you find a buyer, it would be worth it. Talking about it at the coffee shop, church, every where you go would be advisable. If all else fails, find a non-profit looking to hold a raffle. Donate it and take full tax credit. Safe's are built to resist cutting, therefore research about that model is essential. If it does not have asbestos you could punch cut the steel with a torch. Cut off the outer shell, bust concrete, cut inner shell. Once you heat the concrete it will break apart easier. Be careful because heating concrete will create a sand blaster effect. That is why you punch cut the steel before cutting it.

The first fifty bucks somebody offered me would make it go away.

You'd think that would be an easy item to move on Craigslist or something, even locally to you! Good luck!

even if you had to sell it less than scrap value- it saved you supply cost which would about even you out anyways once you scrapped it if you were able to.

If you didn't pay for it(I hope you didn't) and you can't sell it put it out by the street with a free sign on it. I'm sure some scrapper will come by and take it.

And then they will be on here next asking how to get rid of this thing! They will put it on the curb and it will eventually actually maybe end up with someone on this forum saying, ''I got this safe! now what do i do with it!''
