    Manhole covers

I recieved some manhole covers that someone wanted to recycle because they did not have a need for them anymore & i guess did not want to deal with selling them. I was happy to pay scrap price for them.
They are made from the Neenah foundry & are 28'' in diameter & also come with frame/ring.
Heavy suckers and have never been installed.

Trying to decide what to ask for these on CL's.
My searches show they are worth alot, maybe in neighborhood of $2 to $300.
Anyone know what a fair price for manhole covers would be? Internet seaches did not reveal much for me. Foundry does not give prices.

This might be off topoc but have you look for a doomsday prepper forum? They may be intrested in something like that. Maybe to build a sheltet or something?

Why would someon sell something that is worth 2-3 hundred dollars for 0.10 a lb.
I'm thinking stolen property and you could be setting yourself up for problems if your try and sell them on CL. Do a news search for stolen manhole covers in your area. Good luck.

^^Around here yards aren't allowed to buy those from people because they are most likely stolen.

OP, did those covers come with a letter from the seller? Stating they had permission to sell them?

Pictures would be helpful in identifying what you have and how much it is worth.

Most stolen ones do not come with the outer ring and never installed, unless someone got them from a city dept.

There is an auction by me for manhole covers and rings. Guessing overstock or not needed by town/county/DOT? They do show up legit sometimes.

Covers were to be used for a groundwater well project that never happened.
They came from a commercial business that was not interested in coming out to the site for them.
Some people just have enough money to not deal with the heavy lifting.

They do NOT go in the shred pile if you do recycle them. They are cast iron and pay more. If you are trying to resell go to a road construction company. I work for one and we have hundreds of these new and used laying around. They are the people that will give you much better than scrap value.

ive done well on ebay and a local auction with manhole covers....i buy them from my scrap yard every time they get them.....i have better luck when they have foundry names or city names that are odd...any that are ornate or even have the smallest little designs or patterns on them seem to fetch more money....

the ones ive sold have went between 50 to 200 dollars...

As i mentioned in op I already paid scrap price for them. That would be some heavy lifting to sell them for the same price.
