Would you pay more than scrap for this lot?

I was offered a batch of laptops:

    • 10 Dell d630 core 2 duo 2.0ghz 2GB RAM
    • 10 dell e5400 and 10 dell e5410 I5 3.6ghz 4 GB RAM
    • No power supplies
    • They have minor damage (don't know what that means)
    • Most come without HDDs

Located within about 10 miles from me

I have a feeling he will not want to sell them to me for scrap price. Would you pay more than scrap for them? If so, how much?

    nope

you some end up with much profit if you do, the power supplies will cost too much and the hard drives will add up fast if you aren't stockpiled with them.

Edit: I might for the towers, laptops are too much for me to want to mess with

    ymmv

Find out how much the ram is selling for, and how much you would pay for just the ram, and make that the offer for the lot. You could also ake into consideration selling the laptops just as straight scrap (minus cpus, and ram).

Don't fix them, just sell the salvageable parts. If there are no power supplies, you would only have to get one or two to check them all out.

those i5 machines are easy sells on ebay even with minor damage.........take good pics and describe the item correctly and your looking at $75-100 each even as is

I take consignments on higher end broken laptops and I normally just see if it will boot then list on ebay as is..........I have gotten up to $200 bucks for certain laptops without even trying to power them up.........Big market for newer laptops on ebay as there is an army of refurb companies and individuals there

Also those power supplies are cheap.........you can get a knock off for those for less than $10 on ebay..........

    I agree with mike.

a lot of the profit is going to come down to your ability to test test and install windows or having the knowledge to accurately describe what you have. saving all laptop power supplies as they come in pays off in these situations as well. if you could get them for 15-20 ea put another 30 in for power supply and hard drive and resell for $150-$200 ea you could make out pretty good

No problem. For some reason I'm hoarding power supplies.

As for me, I have a website that clearly lists what I pay so when I get contacted the individual has no real excuse to expect more. When I do get some folks contacting me and asking $300.00 for a laptop, for instance, I know they didn't bother to look any further than my contact page. It happens.

I would have to look at them before making any decision. The first thing I would (probably) do is set up a day & time for me to drop by and take a look at them. If he doesn't specify what he wants, then I just go with the notion that he's just looking to be rid of them at recycling prices. Even if there is some kind of mix-up in that category, I can use it as a networking or prospecting opportunity.
