Yard Sailing On A Beautiful Day (Watch Out For Pirates!)

I had a yard sale yesterday and it went pretty well. Got the some room in the garage to move now, lol. I'm pretty easy when it comes to pricing, I just want more than scrap value and I'm generally happy.

I was out early and all set up when a guy I'm pretty sure I've seen at my yard pulls up 25 min early. I should have told him I wasn't open yet but I let him wander around and he bought a suit case for $2. He was hymning and hawing over a Yamaha tuner and JBL surround sound system. I told him $30 for the tuner and HE offered $60 for it all. I said no problem. He left without buying it. I still had to put up signs, so I asked my son to watch the driveway while I drove around the block. I was gone 10 min max. When I got back, my son was so proud he had sold something. I asked what he sold and I also noticed the big subwoofer was gone. That SOB came back and bought a sweet speaker in great condition off my son for $2!!!!! I hope karma kicks him in the nuts!

The speaker was free so it wasn't a huge deal, I was way more upset that someone I was just talking to would come back and take advantage of my kid like that.

Sounds like a typical pirate , some people have no morals and would do anything for a buck . A few vendors I have spoke with don't set up on the weekends as a lot of their merchandise would disappear throughout the day . Kind of counterproductive when your spending time and resources to set up only to have some theif take it .

I shop yard sales and am cut throat about prices. I do not pay much for anything. I do have lines I won't cross and theft is one and as far as I am concerned, when the sale proprietor has given me a price, it is that person I feel must okay the sale... With an exception. If I go back and inform the person left in charge that a price has already been offered and they can then negotiate from the price that was offered.

I have to look myself in the mirror and unscrupulous dealings do not sit well with me.

And that is precisely my point, I was letting stuff go for dirt cheap to begin with. At least my son got an early lesson in business ethics. I made sure to tell him he did nothing wrong, I forgot to tell him not to sell anything and a scumbag just happened to be around.
