New Retro Software Score

Sent my people to clear out a closed children's home the first of November....When they got back to the shop they had brought in a whole box, 25 total, new sealed Windows 98 SE full retail operating systems. I really had no idea what to do with them...Well come to find out people still buy this stuff. Just sold the last one yesterday to a retro software shop in California....

I was surprised too, sold Windows 2000 that was in a "lot" of misc bought at auction. I think it was Mechanic688 that tipped me off.

$26.56 shipped for the Windows 2000 I had. Had only paid $5 for the Lot of misc that had many other sell-able items so I was quite happy.

Sold the Win 98 systems between $9.99 and $24.90 each. We had so many that they went for all different prices. I was talking to our new computer guy yesterday and he said that a lot of people are still very much in love with Win 98...A lot of it has to do with the fact that it lacks a lot of the new security and registration issues that the newer systems have. Glad someone was able to get some use out of them. I can't imagine what the children's home paid for them brand new back in the day.

See, I'd buy one as I hate each upgrade that comes along now, I much prefer the older Windows systems. Those might be good for someplace that only uses them for non internet use.

Me, I love my Win 7, no crashes, runs fast with not a lot of memory draw.

I know a lot of small businesses, like antique stores, are running programs that are Win 95/98 based. Most of them just have no interest in upgrading to a newer program. The gas station I used to manage used a DOS based application for entering the day's numbers...They did it because they were cheap but it was still very stable and never went down.

I agree Mike...We love our Win 7 as well. Thus far it has given us no problems. I love the restore application. A friend brought her laptop to me with a virus and I ran the restore application and poof, no problems.
