Selling/recycling carpet and padding

I made 50 dollars the other day. A guy needed some carpet padding and carpet hauled off. He paid me 20 dollars and I sold the stuff to the recycler for another 30. We get 4 cents a lb for padding. It was 7 cents. Now they take carpet too. Paying 2 cents a lb. It weighs 4 times as much as the padding. Orlando Fl. It has to be nylon carpet though and no glue on the bottom. They use a xrf gun to check it. Made another 20 yesterday.

Wonder how much it costs to ship carpeting to Florida via Chicago?

Drove by a place somewhere near downtown and it caught my attention the other day, there is always carpet on the curb around here!

that stuff can be pretty nast. Lots of sand, dog and cat smells, flooded out stuff. Some times it's wet and heavy

I come across alot of rug, it is some of the nastiest stuff i see. Not sure if I would put in my vehicle to scrap.

I think that it is great to know that you can recycle carpet and pad. Like mikeinreco said " if your getting paid on top of it, its worth it" I wouldnt go picking it up for free but, if you are doing a junk haul away this is a great option. You get paid your $200 or $300 and then you dispose of it. Your options are 1. go to the dump and you pay $30 or 2. go recycle it and they pay you $30 (1000 lb load). So, if you recycle it you arent only making the $30 from recycling it but, also saving $30 that you would of paid at the dump. So, in reality you getting $60 not just $30 in your wallet.

Carpet is plentiful and is heavy so you can get a lot of weight fast.

Oh my god this is right down my alley. My dad is a carpet installer, and we lots of times have to rip the carpet and pad out and we just throw it in a dumpster. Oh my god I'm gunna start doing this lol.

Place by me buys carpet padding and furniture foam, the foam from the cushens on chairs and couches, you have to strip the coverings off. It all gets recycled into new carpet padding. The last time I checked it was about .03 lb.

Very interesting. My thanks for posting this. We get alot of carpet left on the curb down here, between remodels on rental homes, flood/storm damage, etc. Not sure I want it in my van, but it's something to think about if I come across some not really nasty/wet stuff till I find a cheap truck. Ha!

Seriously. The amount of carpet and padding I pass by every week.......

If you could find the compainy that makes the carpet padding maybe you could sell direct to them for a little more money. But I sure they will want it by the ton.
