Alvord iron and salvage

So pretty worthless ?
According to the OP's figures, 2 lbs of mylars contains 1Toz of silver. So, at the price of silver around $23/Toz, that is your total value. Obtaining that amount for them is a different story.
i thought there was someone buying them at $4.50# ?

Yes, but he has suspended his purchasing for the time being. jghilino buys them for 0.10 each, and had mentioned recently that he needed some.
If 78 mylars equal a pound then he is buying at $7.80#. Not bad if you can move some serious weight and he will buy at that price. I am currentley saving all mine. Cut them in half and the go nicely into a box in a corner of my garage.
Odd...mine weigh in at 1lb 7oz with 50 of them. All keyboard mylars..I don't get the other kind Ryan spoke about.
JG not forgotten! Got busy, but still got them for ya.

I bent a wire coathanger straight except for the curled hanger part. About 4" down from that, I bent it up so that when I hang it over the 2x4 that runs across the top of my garage shelf at the back corner, the wire sticks up at about a 30° up angle. I cut that to about one foot in length and of course scrapped the rest of the coathanger. So, whenever I break down a keyboard, I just pick a hole towards one end of the mylar & hang it from that coathanger... if & when I get a foot of them, I'll look for a buyer. Only about 9" to go.

thank you for he intormation I was going to ask about yeild if I didnt find anything in my search. I would also like to learn how to refine them myself out of personal curiosity. I have more than a gaylord of keybords im going to end up taking apart one of these days when im bored.
I don't have much knowledge about refining, but I do know that you need to spend some money on equipment for safety and need basic chemistry knowledge that will probably seem advanced.
Just make sure you research it well before you make an attempt. most stuff like this requires chemicals.
I am not telling you not to do it, I just want you or anyone reading this to be safe and responsible.
An to add on to what Matt said, if your interested in the in the process, head over to the GRF forum, an do some reading. As your not going to find much here on refining, other then us telling you to go to GRF. Those posts here tend to get shut down quick as we're not refiners. Excellent info over on GRF just know they mean serious business over there, an don't tolerate foolishness when it comes to refining. If your already a member there..you can just ignore the above. Just felt it should be said.

I've been pulling something similar out of old printers. They're about 2" wide and maybe 16" long. Are these mylars too?
The nicest mylar I have seen is in the 'Ergonomic' keyboards. Big thick bands of Silver all over it.

What happened to Mrmylar? I would like to know more about what he has found out about the yeilds. I have been saving mylar from key boards for a long time. I sold about 30# for 3.00# and now have about 20# saved up. Thiere is a couple buyers down here in Florida that buys them, they where about 4.50 back when silver was close to 40.00oz but I think it's about 2.50# now. I know I should take you tube video's with a grain of salt but thiere is a video on you tube that shows how to recover silver from key board mylar.
Don't know what happened to that guy. JG pays good for Mylars an was needing some. Same with BumperX(I think, sorry if I spelt it wrong bump!). I've been slacking off on my keyboards, trying to get more before I take the time to bust them down. couple hundred is a good way to kill an hour.

I used to throw them away until I learned there was sliver on them. Sadly I processed quite a few keyboards before I knew about that. Oh well. Lesson learned. Now I have a nail in the wall of the garage I hang them on. Only have about 10 of them at the moment, but just keep saving until I get enough.
He scammed a bunch of people on the GRP (including myself and another member/buyer here "Ocean"). He was toll refining the mylars for different members. To make a long story short, Ocean, Myself, and I think one or two other people sent him material to refine, and he never sent the materials back, nor the refined silver. He's since been banned from the GRF. I'd be really curious to know if he still lurks under another username.
I still buy the mylar, but have slowed down as the silver market is extremely volatile at this point.
