Wood recycling

Chop it into mulch. Bag it. Cash in.

Back home in east Texas we had a place that bought wood from demod buildings and sold it cheap. Just another thing to look into if mills don't pan out.

A few miles from here is a huge wood recycling company. The future of wood recycling is in fuel for biomass furnaces and boilers. They are very expensive to install but much cheaper than gas to run. The nursery I used to work at installed one that supplied a 200,000 gallon hot water tank to heat the entire operation. I think the boiler cost a few million dollars, but paid for itself in about 5 years. It might be a while, but at some point it is going to catch on.

There are also companies that buy junk wood to grind up as mulch, but they do not usually pay much, if at all. If you had access to a tub grinder you could make a few bucks on it.

This is a possibility I saw a guy driving around a wood load the other day and followed him trying to ask him where he takes it but after a few miles I gave up.

For non-treated wood, I cut things up to toss into my outdoor firepit and/or chimeneya.

I keep any burlwood I find, to sell to crafts people.

Pallet furniture is a thing now, esp among the "upcycling" communities. They are even popping up in the shelter magazines.

We got Lumber recycle about a mile down the road from me. Have to pay them to take wood. And across the street is Mulch Masters, Same owner i believe.

Free to dump loads of wood in sacramento ... think they turn it into the stuff they sell at home depot or use it for power (fuel) some where (im not sure ) but i do know they take wood free here

Cruddy wood can also be given away on CL and freecycle, as materials for making compost bins or raised garden beds.

Wood pellet stoves are getting popular now-a-days. Go to you tube and type in wood pellets and you'll find all kinds of vidios on making wood pellets. I think you could grind the wood into saw dust add a little water and run it through a pellet machine, bag the pellets into 50# bags and sell'm.
