New use for CRT Glass

I was searching around attempting to find the best way to get rid of CRTs, other than taking them to the hazardous waste site in my county, and came across https://www.fireclaytile.com/crt/ where apparently they are making tiles from recycled CRT glass. They had a kickstarter campaign a couple of years ago, and you can request free samples of their tiles. I requested a sample to see what they are like and I am thinking of doing a tile back splash in my kitchen with them if I like what I see when the samples show up. I don't know if they will take CRT from individuals or businesses, or if there is just such a huge stockpile out there that they have all that they need. I have emailed them and I am waiting to hear back about it.

This is a cool idea, but at 32-64.00 per square foot, I cannot imagine anyone using much of it.

On the bottom of that page there is an illustration showing their process. I don't think any of the bad stuff is removed. It is just remolded and contained within. Personally, i think it is pretty cool and has a great look. I'd buy it if I was one of those people with a 60k kitchen remodel budget. That's not likely to happen anytime soon.

Prices are about that for tile here - leaded class has some interesting qualities that make it usable as is. I sent them an inquiry and waiting to hear back. Might be an interesting avenue.

You would think that when they could charge people to take the glass that the final product wouldn't be very expensive.

If it's sealed then it shouldn't be that bad. I got off the phone with them just a few ago and they said they do not accept tubes or any size or shape so i'm guessing they have a stock pile of their own to draw from.

I was also thinking about the lead in the glass and how it would be a liability having anything to do with such tiles. It would become like the asbestos scares and such. Great way to get people to remodel.

Another BIG problem is that the powers that be DON'T like people having any lead shielding that might make them "blind". The main reason they got rid of the leaded gasoline and the leaded paints and such is that it messes with the imaging from the skies and elsewhere. Getting rid of the leaded items was nothing to do with health issues, unless your talking the health of the filthy filthy rich.

They are so filthy rich that we can't see them through all the dirt that hides them from the public view and thought.

It is hard to GUESS what is up when you have such great deceptions between the sheep and their masters.

I prefer being a goat as I enjoy chewing the labels off tin cans & climbing on top of old cars and stomping my foot and pretending that I AM the goat god of all I view and then some...

True but the same could be said about asbestos tile. The house i'm living in has exterior tiles made out of it an it's harmless until it's broken. If the tiles are sealed properly it shouldn't be a problem. Worse comes to worse ya use the tile to line yourself a bunker.

I have wondered about the so called crystal leaded glass and if it was much the same as the CRT's. I didn't look at the link above and I have never tried to research the subject as it didn't interest me enough to do so as I have little interest in crystal and I figured that if they were much the same and that there was a market that there must be some BIG reason that there isn't more talk of it. It seems like a "dark alley" of some sort that is best left alone.

As for having leaded tiles and such. I have no problem with it for use as shielding and such as there is a market for it. The down side I see is when the "Governments" decide that it's like "certain sporting items" that can't be owned by the regular Joe anymore and you must turn what you have in or face the firing squad of the blind lady of just us with adjustable scales.
