    Scrap NiCd Batteries

Does anybody know of any buyers for NiCd batteries?

I have a bunch of battery packs from cordless tools and was wondering if there was a market for them.

I tried to search the forum but nothing jumped out at me, I also tried to search for buyers and didn't come up with any.

If you search a little more, theres a way to "shock" them and bring them back to life. I don't remember where I saw it. Don't know if I'd try it...

I saw that on youtube, I also saw an article where you can rebuild the battery packs. They claim that only 1 or 2 of the cells are bad, just replace those cells and your pack will hold the charge again.

Problem is, I don't have the tools for any of these packs, I got them from a company when I picked up other scrap. There is about 30 or 40 19.2V craftsman battery packs there. I'm more than willing to strip the plastic off the packs if I can find a place that will buy the batteries.

We buy them here but with the market crashing I will have to check with my buyer as soon as I can on those to see where the price is at right now.

My yard told me there isn't a market for those so they won't buy em. I'm afraid to even think of how to check each cell, batteries/acid scare me like that lol.

Basically it's a bunch of dry cells about the size of a "c" size battery linked together "+" to "-" to achieve desired voltage. It's been a while so I forget the whole process I went thru to test, but you have to weed out the bad cells, then shock the cells that are still usable, put it all back together and charge. I didn't use a welder but a good sized battery charger, little safer but still plenty of sparks flying around. Reconditioned batteries worked for a while but then went back to there old ways so I treated myself to a new set of Makita Lithium Ion tools and never looked back.

I wonder how many of the buyers on ebay are refurbishing them and how many are meth labs looking for ingredients?

    Exclamation

If they hold a charge, I can usually sell them for slightly higher than "break even" .

Note: I sell bulk small rechargeable battery units on Ebay from time to time. I test all the units to see if they can hold a charge before shipping.
