    Need Help with over pricers.

Ok so i found a bike ive wanted near me but he wants 1000 and it needs parts and i found the same one for 625 (RUNNING) but way too far for me. but the one for a 1000 is close and it says ( not operate because the carb is blocked up, throttle twist knob is stuck, key and ignition assembliy needs to be replaced and needs new battery. Thats it.) What do you think i could do to talk him down like in pawn stars Lol. should i just not back off quickly?

With those problems you dont even know if it will ever run, you may get it running and it may smoke due to broken rings.
I would offer like $100 for it and see what his responce is. I would not pay more than the running bike. Just becouse it is close by doesnt mean it a better deal.

Slide in carb(s) is probably stuck due to gas turned to varnish inside...PB Blaster or boiling carb will usually free it up. Seller needs a reality check that if he wants to get what he's asking the bike needs to run, otherwise with title it's worth a couple hundred bucks max. Tell him if he doesn't sell you can offer ____ in it's current condition and wait for the phone to ring.

mention all the things that are wrong with the bike and that it may not even get into working condition. mention or show him the ad for the more inexpensive one. Then lowball him, maybe 100-200. leave yourself room to go up a little bit. make sure you don't pay more than it's worth

Yeah i just wish they do a lil reasearch on the used price But the reason he wants a 1000 is beacuase he says that its (pristine 162 mile driven motorcycle) Please note that the bike it self going to a dealer cost $1699. Well here are the ads 2006 Lifan Rocket (200cc) (one thats priced good)

I never have dealt with the cheap Chinese bikes. There are many other options out there that are more reliable and parts and factory service manuals are easy to get.

No way I would waste my hard earned $$$$ on a POS Chinese bike.
I just bought a 97 Concours for $1500 when the guys asking price was $2700. I found a old CL ad and called him saying I buy motos for to part out and would he take the KKB trade in value. He tied to get me to offer more then said no when I stuck to my price. He called back in about 5 minutes and said come get it.
The way I get deals on motorcycles is to do a RSS feed to google reader on my I-google home page from Craigslist or Searchtempest

I have a Concours as well...easy to work on motor rated for 100k + miles in many cases and very reasonably priced if you watch Craigslist.

easy fix to the problem. you want to pay $400 on take him $400 cash, he says no walk away, chances are by the time you get to your truck he will have the bike at the tail gate ready to help you load it. as it stands now the bike is junk, and chinese junk at that. no scooter store will pay more then scrap price for that bike. but remember this. you can put any price on any thing, sooner or later some fool will pay the price if you keep it long enough.

Yeah But as crazy as it sounds i think im going to tell him i want to take a better look by going to see it in person and then pull a rick Harrison on him and be like yeah ill give you 400 and not a dime more! and if he refuses walk away. Thanks for the idea.

Harley Davidson, the rest is just scrap to me. Well, maybe a Norton or Triumph. But everything else goes for scrap.

Either that or just take the road trip and pay $75. more than what the "idiot" is asking for his broken one, and buy yourself the good running one from your first post.

I just love when sellers feed me this line. "No, I got someone who will give me XYZ for it". Right, and that's why you still have it.

You need to negotiate in a different way. You started from his price and tried to come down. Next time, start from your price and let him talk you up.

There's a big difference. You mentioned Pawn Stars, well if you think about it, it's what they do too.
I know lying is wrong, but if the elephant man came in now in a blouse with some make up on, and said, "How do I look?" Would you say, bearing in mind he's depressed and has respiratory problems, would you say, "Go and take that blusher off you mis-shapened elephant tranny?" No. You'd say, "You look nice... John""

Discipline your "want" level and your tendency to overpay for stuff takes care of itself. There's no problem if I can't make a deal with someone at a fair price. They still have their item, I still have my cash and I'm happy. After several people walk away from him, he might be ready to deal at a more realistic price. Maybe you can call back in a month or two and try it again.
