Server blades..not just for recycling anymore!

So I was bopping around the web earlier today, and decided to visit a website dedicated to one of the games I enjoy playing over the net'. While there they had a story posted about some server blades being auctioned off to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and thought you would all like to see what a Server blade from the biggest game on the internet looks like. The game in question has over 10 million subscribers, down from 12 mil this past winter..but still the leading game in the industry. No other game comes close to that many subscribers..nothing.

So yea..anyhow they auctioned these off and made $333,000 dollars for St. Jude. All proceeds went to the hospital of course.

So now that I got my inner nerd out of the way...here's the pic

If you'd like to learn more on the auction and such you can find the blurb here Blizzard raises over $330,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

Thanks for letting me share my inner nerd, back your scrapping now!

Its great to see the geeks in their basements have come out long enough to support a very worthy cause. Also I have many of your posts and I have to say your inner geek has leaked many times in the past and your secret has not been well protected. Mike

Turns out that each sever blade. Was the actual playable realms. I would have bought Skull Crusher for 300.

LOL Miked. Yea I don't hide it to well. I'm at the stage where I'm rather proud of it. :P An I can't believe you just called me a geek... lol.

An DM yes sir, it was the individual realms/servers. Had I the funds I'da done the same, a very worthy cause in my opinion. Glad to see a game company give back to the community.

Though I do wonder what a server from Blizzard would weigh and look like. I just might have to root around to see if I can't find out.

10 million subscribers.. You're bound to know a few of them without actually realizing it.

Years ago I was dating this chick, and for the first 8 months, her step dad had been playing and I never knew.

Everquest 2 is my gaming addiction. I rarely run into kids and the ones I have run into are nice and well mannered. I have made some good friends with it as well.

Sony just sucks at promoting their games though, so not near the populations as WoW.

I typically play 3 nights a week now, but only after everything is done. There is a reason it is called evercrack.

LOL...I remember when Evercrack (not herd that one in a while) came out. Never played it, as I wasn't into the big MMOs of that era. I was still establishing my inner nerd on such games as Gemstone 3 (now 4). Far as wow and kids..I got lucky my current server is rather chill and laid back not many trolls/kids acting up, which always makes me happy.

It's a nice way to relax, I could find worse ways to spend the 15 bucks a month. Heh.

Someday someone will ask if any other gamers on here, and Mech will pop a link up, and we'll all have our inner nerds exposed! :P

Sirscrapalot - Still things Mech88 uses magic to pull up links.

Back in my hey day I was a game tester for take two interactive . We would have tournaments in our office playing diffrent titles . Stronghold crusader was a fun game . Nothing better than taking over the castle/cubicle next to you .
I think I have about 120m in rs currency . Glad they let me back outside . Truth is they closed the Baltimore location and we lost our jobs to California and Germany I believe . It's been almost 20 years . I had friends try to persuade me to play wow but I wasnt a fan .
I think testing pc games ruined everything except for old school games from my youth .
