You need some good advertising like on radio stations, mail flyers, free gift giveaway will attract alot of people. If you fail, redesign your website. Make auction site broken up in locations like craigslist.

I followed all of that, except the last sentence. What do you mean broken up?

like states and cities. People then can auction stuff and buyer can pickup locally if needed. Might want to hide ad totals for the sections for awhile until you get some traffic. I know I don't feel comfortable selling on a website that doesn't have too many others selling.

My other idea is to make a website like this just for your local area first. Advertising on radio is alot cheaper then TV. Once you start getting business expand your selling area.. Other counties, states.

Tell businesses in your area about your website in person. I know that goodwill sells on ebay. Maybe you can get their business.

I think im about done with ebay because recently a guy bought my iphone 4s that had a cracked screen for 347 bucks right then i shouldve known he had something up his sleeve. He was from Israel i usually dont ship out of the country but he asked me if i would ship it so i did, about 3 or 4 weeks maybe even a month or so later i get a message saying "where is my phone?" Im thinking, huh? I shipped this phone with a tracking number but i didn't know that usps dont track items to israel so now it isn't showing that it was delivered and he's saying that he never received it and im not about to give him his refund because my phone is gone and i will never get my money back and he probably has it hidden somewhere, anyway of course paypal and ebay is trying to make me refund his money. I've already changed my bank account numbers and visa card so they cant access my account. Its a shame because i have a 100% fb score with 1 silly neautral that doesn't even make sense. So i think this is it for me, craigslist here i come.

I appreciate the idea and thought. I will think about the cities and states option. As far as the list counters, I never even paid attention to all of that. I disabled that feature. Thanks.

I too was once a powerseller.

I call them evilbay for a reason.

I keep coming up with things I would probably do best selling on there, but
I just can't make myself go back.

I'm pretty sure anymore the free search engine submission sites are useless. Google indexes your site automatically through the use of it's spiders and your site ranking there is mostly determined by how many links other websites have pointed to you, along with the content and activity.

And never sell outside the US, all your protection goes away. Outside the US buyers pay by some form of payment that eBay can't attach, then the worst that can happen is bad feedback.

You're screwed, one way or another. Sorry dude.

For those of you who actively ebay, how long do you generally put the ads up for?

If it's something I have a steady supply of, I do the 30 day but on 1 up items then it's the 7 day auction with a buy-it-now option..

more importantly is work out the busiest time on ebay for what your selling.
but generally, listing a 7 day auction, it be a good time to list say 6-10pm Sunday
that's about the hottest time for a listing to end.

Common items with high demand=24 hr

Common items with steady demand=3 day

Not so common but good sellers= 5 or 7 day depending if I make Sunday's post

Multiple like item or something that consistently sells at same price=30 day Buy it Now (auto pilot)

Over 90% of things I sell are shipped free with 1 day processing. Not really free...it's figured into the price but perception is reality. I was not trying for Top Rated/Power Seller status, it just happened. Last invoice got about a 20% discount because of it so that works for me. Found a Match Safe recently at a estate sale for .75 cents that sold for over $100...that was fun to watch folks fight over for 3 days.

Just had my first successful ebay sale. I sold an old T-Mobile Blackberry that I used for less than a month. It sold for almost $20 more than what I tried selling it on craigslist for.

Total amount including shipping is $69.99

That's good George. As a rule of thumb though, most figure a total of 15% for Ebay and Paypal fees, so it sold for about $10 more then what you had it on Craigslist for. Also keep in mind if you have more then 200 transactions or 10K in sales you will get a 1099 at the end of the year.

You think that's something wait until eBay starts pimping you by making you refund buyers just because they say they want a refund even though you shipped the product with tracking number and they threaten to suspend your ebay account if you dont do what they say! Terrible business model. I mean who does that?

That is when my lawyers will love to play with their lawyers. I wont be intimated by anyone. If anything goes wrong outside of me shipping the merchandise, they can take it up with the shipper (ups, usps, etc).

If it is something that is my fault, then I will deal with it, but if anything like you are saying happens, I wont think twice to simply stop using the.

I'm starting to get in to ebay trying to sell some of the trophy stuff I recieved for Scrap Metal. And I am actually kind of getting addicted. But I'm a little confused with shipping and I'm gonna go to the post office and get flat rate boxes so its easier.
