A Ton of Steel is a Ton of steel correct

I'm really frustrated in regards to a scrap yard in the sioux falls area.

I've been bringing My scrap steel to them for years and years.. use to get great prices on it,

then this year.. We brought in a load of scrap computer cases.. and by all mean extremely clean. they said.. oh due to the fact its this thick or this thin, it less then half price.

I don't get it.. a ton of steel is a ton of steel..

    Am I missing sumthing..

the really funny thing is.. I go else where and I can get anywhere from 180.00 a ton to 193.00 a ton.. Hmmmm.. sounds fishy.

What did they pay you per ton? At my yard it would go as shred/tin for $170/ton.

If they are in fact jerking you around, go to a different yard.

Assuming that you're not going to be able to tell them how to run their yard, I'd go somewhere else.

At the yard I go to that would be considered sheet metal $200.00 a ton right now.

Thats odd, I've nev er had my computer cases ''measured'' for thickness. I'd go somewhere else now for sure.

well, at the yard that they are giving me the run around... its normally 190.00 a ton, but they will only give me 52.00 give or take per tons... So I just got back from sioux city and I get 185.00 a ton... I say I did right piss on them.. and went to a yard that work with honesty. not steal your hard earn work..

if anyone wants to know I be glad to say who this crooked yard is.. there is only one in sioux falls.. SD that should do the trick.

this thin less then half ... I use to take My mobo to them and such.. they would only pay me ten cent to 30 cent a pound.. I got wiser.. maybe thats why.. .. his excuse was.. for giving me less price also is I'm not bringing Him my good stuff anymore.. well duhhhh.. you were stealing from My kids stomach.

thanks guys.. for response.. figure something was fishy also..

Yup! A diffrant yard it would be for me. That's why I won't deal with a yard that dose not post prices, I check before I leave that they paid me what was posted.

how about TJN,,, I don't mind doing the same... I just feel that they would do such thing after years of bringing our scrap to them.. I don't anymore.. I seek another avenue.. and now I get almost four time what they paid...

I would think at this point a best and worst scrap yard list would be an excellent idea. I mean, why continue to let them operate as they see fit, the way I see it, they operate a customer based business and need to have the best customer service.

computer cases around here are shred/tin/appliance all 3 pay the same just some yards name it different..it is 9 dollars to 10 dollars per hundred pounds around here....at my regular yard i could throw a hundred pounds or so on a load of short iron and they would pay the top dollar price for them as long as they were clean...

i always thought that same thing.....a few years back when the stealing first got real bad and some of the laws changed we lost 2 great yards..one paid the best for auto,s and tin,,,and the other one paid the best for copper and aluminum...

what they did was quit buying metal from any small time scrapper...it didnt even matter if you owned a business or not,,they require you to bring in semi loads at a time or they will not even talk to you...

i figured they would go under before long or else they would loose lots of money and start accepting us smaller guys back,,,boy was i wrong they are both still open and going strong....i actually talked with one of the owners a while back and he told me it is actually working out so well for him that he would have never bought from the general public if he had knew how well it would work for him..

A Ton of Steel is a Ton of steel correct
It depends, are you talking metric at 2205lb.,
or net ton at 2000 lb,
or gross ton at 2240 lb.
