    Clothing Question

This will probably end up long so please bear with me. I do lots of curb pickup and I get the other half of my things from family, family friends, friends of friends, neighbors, etc.

I know everyone has different sources of there their scrap comes from. I've met people while picking up curb items that take my number and call me when they have other items. I usually do all my picking/pickups in shorts and one of my work shirts (sometimes full of dirt, oil, etc) There are some that I will change my clothes before hand. In the winter time I wear sweats and a scooby hat (not joking) because I get cold easy and will get the shakes so bad that I can't drive.

I'm thinking I'd better invest in a few T-shirts that I should start wearing when curb shopping and pickups. Especially because things are picking up for me. Lady scrappers maybe you can give me a few tips too. I always pony tail my hair and rarely ever bother with make-up because I think doing my hair and make-up are a waste of time when I'm trying to make money.

Told you I was long winded...... What type of T-shirts should I get and any suggestions on what I can wear in the winter to make myself more professional looking???? I'm looking for other scrap avenues, I do get some normal large pickups but I want to expand and I know I need to look professional to do so!! Acting professional is no problem for me.

As well any ideas on what I could put on T-shirts or sweat shirts. I have no business name, it's just me and the kids that do pick-ups and my dad does tear-down with me. I'd have to have T-shirts printed but I can embroider sweat shirts myself.

Any help would be appreciated because it's time I make more money!!!!!!!

Have you considered coveralls with a recycle symbol on the back?

If it wasn't for the $ in $crap, it would just be.....

That could be an idea but I'd never wear pink!!! Almost afraid that I'd look frumpy.... ughghgh I'm partial to grey cotton clothing..... If I got coveralls in cotton I'd have to search the pj section at the store... don't think that will go over well with people. But coveralls are still an idea, I'll have to borrow a pair and see if I can tolerate wearing them though.

I think the key in the winter is a jacket. You can always use a decent clean jacket to cover up any shirt stains or dirt. They are easy to take off if you dont want to get it dirty while loading and just put it back on when your done.

I would get some T-Shirts made up with your business name. Not too cheap in order to look professional, but not too expensive because they out get oily and dirty. The dirty and oily ones could be recycled as rags for brake down and clean up.

For the winter months, I would do the same logo thing with a zippy up hooded sweatshirt and knit hat. In addition, a nice logo Carhartt jacket to look professional and it is easy to take off before break down in order to keep clean so what.

Duluth has great stuff but it’s a little pricy. I have a friend that swears by their fire hose material that has been recycled into pants. He says there comfortable and they can take a beating.

I would start with a name (you don't have to spend the money to register it but at the least you should get an EIN [tax id #] it might open other doors if you are a "real" business).

There should be a promo shop near you that makes shirts in small quantities. I got a custom "sample" from Staples for $5 - just watch for deals.

Mechanic I've thought about one of those shirts but it says "vehicles" on there and I have no way of hauling those "yet". That part of the shirt isn't editable.

I need to do the obvious, get me a few T-shirts printed up, a sweatshirt, a good longer length Carhartt and I can't forget the hat for the winter. I did see one I really liked on the Duluth Trading site that I could wear that wouldn't look tacky yet keep my head warm. Thank You everyone for the responses.

ONLY problem I have now is picking a company name........ any ideas how to pick one??????????????????????????????????

Still trying to figure out a name. I'll look into Staples and see if they let you use your recycle credits on those, that would be a free way to get some t-shirts!! I have a business license for something else I do and it's a "Not For Profit" business so I was able to just use my own SS# for a business bank account and didn't require anything further because of the type of business it's considered. My T-shirts for my Not For Profit came from VistaPrint, I always get the different emails for a free something or other if I pay shipping and was able to get my shirts for 3.00!!

I'll get a business license soon for this but I'm still trying to work around ordinances where I live and how to find the best way to approach it because eventually I hope to find what part of scrapping I'd like to specialize in and build it up big from there. I don't plan on working out of my house and garage forever.

I layer my clothes for cold weather. Cold days is usually insulated undershirt/tshirt/flannel shirt/larger flannel shirt/possibly a quilted flannel shirt if cold enough, but those come off quick once i get started. As the day gets warmer and the pace picks up they also come off in layers. I rarely Ever wear a coat. People see me without one and think i don't have one, and guess what my next birthday brings? Believe me, I have a closet full of coats! If you layer them from smaller to larger/looser, they are very comfortable and easier to move in.

The advantage of a local promotion company is you can sit across a desk from someone and they can help with the design plus they will usually keep the pattern for a screen print on file so you can get more later that look the same. Some won't charge local businesses a set-up fee.

Medical scrubs endure frequent washing, and they have big pockets.
