    Sounds like you need a long cold chisel and know how to use it. My preference is to clamp a vise grip to the chisel when driving it into some metal to wedge it apart. Hold the vise grip with your gloved hand while hitting the chisel, and always have the piece being split in a clamp or wedged in somewhere that it can't move or get out of control.
