Whelp, got my garages moved around and set up for winter today

Now that things are slowing down I will be working mostly out of my own garage instead of my dads. So I stacked all my push mowers behind the rider I kept (sold the other one) on the same side as my work bench and took everything non winter related to the basement and made room for all my buckets and bins on the other side.

I will mostly be using my dads garage for breakdown, stocking of large items and taking some garbage out there (plastic, tv's and all that jazz) and bringing the rest home to finish up here. I am only going to be turning in metal and aluminum and copper at the yard closer to me since the prices are comparable against gas savings driving 30 miles to the other yard out there.

last winter I moved all my tool boxes to the basement and worked inside but I just have too dang much stuff to move this year and so I said the heck with it, I'll work in the garage this winter instead. heh, we'll see how long that actually lasts . My kitchen table might just become a work bench if it gets Brrrrrrrrrrr cold!!

I have more shelves in my garage this year that I picked up scrapping and tool boxes so everything is better organized and more tools so no way am I going to move it all down. Thats a lot of weight! And a lot of work! Plus I have a heater to take the chill off a bit out there to make it more tolerable. I made some barriers out of insulation I found scrapping to help block any air leaks around the man door and big door while the heaters is running too.

I plan to use the larger sized bins to stock up any wire and brass to turn in once a month or so at the other yard for better pricing. Last winter I turned in every week but this year I can't take the cold as well so I am changing my plan of action to better suit my physical........failings . Getting old sucks lol!!

Oh, and I kept one of his large heavy plastic trash cans, he hasn't noticed it missing yet . Heeeeee!!!!!

my power tools are on the shelves behind the blue wheelie cooler and computer boards are in various boxes along the wall shelves.

I added a new peg board behind my bench for the tools I inherited from my uncle.

2 push mowers are stacked behind the rider I'm keeping and the 3'd I haven't stacked yet, hoping to get one more mow time in weather permitting.

I keep some steel stacked in driveway and some in the back of my truck. the bins under my bench and two of the bins/coolers are for small steel stuff that gets broken down inside and the rest are for non ferrous stuff.

New- you might want to think about one of these shelf units. big/strong enough for loaded totes and 5 gal buckets.
Made out of 2x4 and plywood, might be able to get the wood for free from a cleanout. You can go 4 high and doesn't take much more room than your metal shelf.

A 4x8ft sheet of plywood will make 4 - 2x4ft shelves, and if you'll get treated 2x4s, they're stronger than plain lumber, and can be ripped in two for less bulky legs and cross supports, and to make your material go farther. It's really simple to make some very large and sturdy shelves, especially if you use decking screws(works best to drill the first part so it will pull in tight to the next one). If you want to be really cool with it, use a wood rasp(it looks like a file with round ends, and has several different size tooth patterns for coarse and smooth rasping) to round and smooth all the cut edges, and then run sandpaper over the tops, sides, and edges

I try to keep gas cans apart from the work area, and nearer a door for better dissipation of fumes(gas fumes sink/fall), and inside a metal cabinet if possible. better yet in a secure outer storage unit
