Here's another one, kind of off the subject of this thread but I thought it was kind of funny. I was in line at the scrap yard one day and the truck in front of me had a sign on it that said "five toes recycling" I was sitting there trying to think of what that meant when al of a sudden the driver gets out of his truck and he's hopping around. then I'm thinking what's this guy doing jumpping up and down. When he came around the side of his truck I noticed he only had one leg. At first I kinda felt sorry for him till it dawned on me he had more scrap than I did.

How about the "Penny Pincher"?? The guy that'll spend 45-minutes smashing a small electric motor to try and get $1.00 in Copper out of it.

Or the "1%ers"...the guys on bicycles with make-shift pull behind trailers peddling their way to $10 cash outs, about 6 times a day!

The guys that drive around here with 8 ft weathered plywood walls. They are usually displaying "SCAP METAl" usually all crooked with their phone numbers crossed out and new ones sprayed on when their pay by the month plan ends.

    The 'Can tab man'.

The guy, who's 100% certain that for every can tab he collects, someone gets 15 minutes on a Dialysis machine.

That they contain Titanium & the tabs worth more than the entire can, when its still full.............0.6 grams vs 15gms for the whole can.

The "Some microchips are worth more than their weight in gold" idiot.

Well I have only met one of them, but I gotta tell yah, for a larf.

A new one for me yesterday. Brand new scrapper guy! I went for a walk with my wife and spotted some bikes in an alley. Went back to load them up and I hear this guy saying you beat me to it and was waving to me. I pull though the alley and he is there, says he is new to scrapping and was wondering if it is worth it. I talked to him for a bit and then he left. I should have told him about SMF! But was a little taken back as he was so happy about getting scrap! LOL Next time I see him I will inform him. Normally the guys you see, look like they want to kill you for getting to the scrap pile first!

I met the "lifetime hoarder guy" swore he had millions in scrap... could be true whole place was junk with paths in between the piles.
to bad it would cost him half that to get it all out

In the parking lot near my house there is a goodwill donation bin (Those big metal things). The bin has been there on and off for the past couple years I have lived here. On more than one occasion I have witnessed people rummaging through the pile of stuff next to the bin and people actually going IN the donation bin. Its a really sad world sometimes!

I dont exactly think it was scrappers going through the bin, but they are the same type of people! O.O

I meet all types of people and one of the reasons, I like this "SCRAPING THING". Who comes to see me, other business owners, they want to know, what their employees are throwing away. I do my best to tell them, I know it got me thinking about how much my people used to throw away (still do just not as much). What gets thrown away A TO Z and then some.

Nice one pjost! They probably think "Nunda, SD" which is an actual "town" but not much of one...

The non-ferrous place I go used to be just off of downtown at the end of the park that's the namesake for the bigger town next to me. I rolled in there with some bags of Al cans. Cold winter day. I can spend a lot of time outside in the winter but if I would have been out all day on this one, I would have been wearing insulated boots. Certainly a toe numbing day in tennies.

Anyway, street type of guy comes in with 2-3 pounds of cans he's picked up during the day. Tells us all standing there its a great life, no one is telling you what to do, he's his own man. Probably made enough money to go buy a bottle of Ripple or Thunderbird from the downtown liquor store about 8 blocks away. And if he didn't like people telling him what to do, he wasn't going to get to stay in the Salvation Army shelter that night with EtOH on his breath. Probably ended up under a bridge. I admired his toughness to the elements. Pitied him the rest of his life choices...

It reminds me of a song I have heard, ever since I was a tiny kid, I think of it often.
I understand it, but one day I know I will get the full meaning of it.

reminds me of a guy used to "train" at a gym that i used to go to
he was a skinny runt but he had advice for everyone

anything that anyone did, we were all apparently doing it wrong & he knew how to do it right but somehow he never seemed to apply his advice to himself.

when you're doing stuff like that you'd be surprised how many people will cold approach you in the street and give you money, food, clothes, etc......the cans were probably just his dog and pony show!

    and other people you meet...

    kcpd!

They say things like "Step out of the car." and "I will beat the &#$( out of you." and "Just tell if you ate it, this is Wyandotte county you won't get written up." and "Well, I took it kind of easy climbing down that wall, I didn't want to mess my back and knees up...he jumped down at full speed and hit the ground running...that's why it took so long to tase him."

oh and they make fun of you for scrapping...in the police report when they inventory your vehicle it says 1.) scrap metal and 2.) trash.
