    scrap yard problems

So i called one of the local scrap yards to ask what he accepted and what not. Basically i took it from him. If it's metal one pile, copper one pile, aluminum one pile. How can i make any money like that. Told me it was a waste of time to strip washers, dryers, ect. He said it will lesson the value. Guess I'll be finding another scrap yard with people who have more knowledge of the different types of metal.

Don't expect the scrap yards to tell you what to do with your scrap unless you have a good relationship with them. They are in business to make money, not to make you money. If you want to know what to do with your scrap inorder to make the most money start reading everything you can on this forum, that's what we'er here for. if you want to ask questions to your scrap yard do it when you bring in your scrap, then don't ask a whole list of questions at once. Ask just one or two every time you go in and they will see that your going to be a regular costermer then they will be glade to answer your questions, they realy don't have time to answer questions over the phone or the person answering the phone might not be the right person to ask. I hope this helps you and anyother new scrapper.

Happy got that right. While you are reading break things down so you will gain the knowledge of what is worth it (to you) to break down. Mike.

Yeah sounds like you need to keep looking for a good yard, I always strip my stuff as much as possible. For me i make more in the long run this way, and tearing down allows me to pack more on the trailer. freezers, dryer housings can hold a lot of smaller stuff.

Yeah reading these forums, I've learned a lot. My brother laughs at me sometimes cause i will take the time to strip everything down to get the most of what i have. I separate everything according to the metal and when i get a big enough pile I'll take that pile off rather than taking everything as one big lot. Just makes more sense to me

I break down everything I get. Not only is it more profitable in the long run, I enjoy doing it. Sounds like that yard is trying to keep you from breaking stuff down so they make more profit.
