Pool Table

So, my brother in law and I are picking up a pool table tomorrow evening from a client of mine. The guy says it is in good condition, etc.

So, I thought about selling it. I put it on a few facebook groups that I have.

Anyways, my wife was telling me about trying a consignment shop to sell it, where I take it there, and they sell it, and take a % for their fee, and I get the rest.

I know BurlyGuys has done this, but I wanted to see for anyone who has done this, were your items able to sell?

Since this is a potential option, I will see if I can find any consignment shops in the area tomorrow.

When I was putting my lab together, I ended up finding slate pool tables, too them apart and used the slate as counter tops for my lab tables. They work awesome, resistant to acid and heat, etc etc etc.

My thoughts on the percentage that consignment shops take...What's the complaint? This is found money. When you add up what it would cost you in time and money to market the items you want to sell. Any time I can take an item and sell it through someone else's efforts, I figure they earned their portion. And I got a payday without any further effort.

My pool table sold for somewhere between $100 - $150, I don't remember exactly. It sold within hours.
The consignment shop takes 40%, which I felt to be very reasonable.

It might have done better at the on-line auction site I use, where everything starts at a buck and all items
sell, unless you have crap no one will bid a buck on. Additionally, the auction site only charges 25%.

I now take a monthly load to the auction house and, while I have to wait for my money, I love those
surprise check in the mail.

And George, I have one further question. You ARE charging to take the pool table away, right? :-)

The slate was a good 3 to 4 inches thick. As much as my brother in law and I didn't want to, we dismantled it enough to remove the 3 slate pieces. Luckily, we can put it back together with no problems.

Only thing someone will need to do is pay someone to redo the felt. The felt is in great condition, and we took caution not to rip it or anything, but we have no idea on how to re install it lol

So, we shall see what happens.

Okay 2 quick questions.

I was Googling for pool table companies in my area to get an idea on refelting cost, and the balls for the table.

Unfortunately, all I kept coming up with was billiard companies aka pool halls.

So I have 2 questions.

1. It looked like some sort of glue or light adhesive was used to keep the green felt fabric attached to the slate pieces. It come off really easily, it makes it looks like that the felt is tucked under the wooden sides and then looped over, but it isn't. It is big enough to fit the slate alone, and then the wooden side pieces has their own felt.

2. Can anyone tell me roughly how much a set of pool balls, the triangle piece, and the chalk is worth.

Looks like about $50 for the set with triangle unless they are unusual or special.

As a former pool player (hey, I've done a LOT of stuff!), what I can tell you is this: You will not recover your costs for the additional items. A good set of Belgian composite pool balls (which is what any serious player will want) is $60-$70. The rack and chalk will run you a few bucks more. Much easier to just say those items are not included.

Ah, good old Walmart...didn't even consider them. Those would be fine, too Mechanic. Incidentally, the way you USED to be able to tell a Belgian set was that the underline under the numbers on the six and nine balls was an upward curve. I don't know if that is any longer true...

And you still won't recover the cost if you provide them..l

Okay, so I got several ideas for the balls, so that helps!

Can anyone tell me what type of glue or adhesive is used to re place the green felt to the slate piece?
