I generally ad straps and such untill i feel the load is secure, then add one more. Straps are cheaper than tickets, and even the most attention grabbing loads get ignored by the cops if they see straps everywhere

That's why I not only use sideboards, but hog-tie the crap out of anything that I feel may "come loose," always keep rope and ratcheting keeper straps in the truck for that purpose. Had cops follow me before with a mountain of stuff in my truck and they never stopped me since I had everything tied down in a ridiculously OCD-style manner.

I use straps, but i also made a back for my wood box so nothing comes out if the strap happens to come loose

Is it possible they are yet to move this vehicle on a roadway, or have already unstrapped it at the yard in preps for the claw?
I can't imagine somebody ever driving with such a precariously perched projectile as this. If he was on the road with it in this manner, he'd sure deserve a ticket

I'm planning on making my 2-wall enclosure a full 4-wall, complete with headache rack for the back window (already sent something through it once before while unloading at the yard) and either a single door that opens to one side or double barn doors at the tailgate, less worry and more peace of mind. Will probably do that over the Winter season and have it ready for Spring when more "good stuff" gets thrown out...

Speaking of things in the road, about 45 minutes ago we were coming home from showing the kids Christmas lights and someone apparently didn't tie their deer in the truck too well. The crazy thing was standing right on the middle line of the road taking up both sides. He got the "deer in the headlights" look and didn't move until I blasted on the horn. Didn't want to get too close as he could have took off in any direction including slamming into my wife's Toyota Venza.

I knew a man who was hit by piece of firewood that came off a truck heading the other direction. Went through the windshield and hit him in the face. He was never the same. It only takes a minute or two to prevent something like this from happening. Tie it down!

When I first started I learned Math here it goes! Bad tailgate + load not secure + Driving too Fast + railroad tracks = 0 dollars at the Yard!! Yes I did. caused a major traffic jam to have the traffic chopper hovering above my truck. WOW talk about feeling stupid. Best part is getting asked when I get home " so how much money did ya make" needless to say I over tie down EVERYTHING NOW!

aerodynamics is another force that will affect that load you think is strapped in so nothing falls out but with a good updraft will fall up

some towns do have the law on the books that the loads also need to be tarped even if your just passin through on your way to the scale or dump in the next town over

I'm OCD too about it so i tie them down good. Then i drive down the road a ways and get out and tighten anything that wiggled loose
