    Flu shots

They say it's really bad this year. I heard a doctor on tv say that a healthy person could go from being fine to being in the ICU within 48 hours with this flu.

Anybody got the shot? Or has anyone had it yet? And before anyone yells at me - this is Off Topic Discussions and it doesn't have to relate to scrap. Although if you get the flu it will probably bring your scrapping to screeching halt lol.

I'm trying to figure out whether to pony up the twenty bucks or not.

I get one every year and have never had flu like symptoms. Just reg colds that last a day or two. Knock on wood or scrap in our case.

Never have gotten a flu shot and never will, I see it as why would I want the flu virus in my system and get this years flu ten years later. The pharmacists at work say the virus is dead when they give you the shot, but i thought that a virus can not be killed.
Im not sure. Im not a doctor

Seems that most people I know that get the vaccination tend to get the flu as well. I stay away from things that try to take the place of our natural immune system. Healthy eating and regular exercise will probably be the best thing. Although no guarantee that you wont catch the flu, the recovery will probably be faster and effects shorter. Remember that we have a medical society that would rather over-prescribe for EVERYTHING, then have you back in to fix the side effects from the original prescription. Our dependence on anti-biotics is a great example of this. I dont blame the medical profession entirely, though. They realize that most Americans will choose the easy way out of everything regardless of consequences. Its hard to fight uphill battles all the time. Not to say i've never been vaccinated for anything, I'm just cautious about what I put in my body (except for the ho-ho's and twinkies...those i just cant resist).

I would put a bullet in anyone that attempted to come near me with a needle loaded with any type of flu or other vaccine. Guess you just have to know what they are really putting in your body. Anyone read the new article yesterday about the nurse that was fired for refusing to get the flu shot? There's a reason she would rather loose a good paying job than get the shot. Just most people have no Idea what it really is.

Depends on ewhere you live. The strain that is rampant here in Florida right now is not the vaccine that has been given. So yes you can still get the flu even with a flu shot. You can NOT however get the flu FROM the flu shot.

And YES you can kill a virus.

I don't put any shot into my body that our government tells me I need. I don't trust any of them.

don't they put mercury in flu shots? i know many other vaccines have high levels of mercury. i'll take my chances of getting sick before i allow someone to put poison in my body.

20 years in the USMC and got a flu shot from the first time it was available. I haven't gotten one yet due to my recent kidney transplant but I can get it now. I will most likely get one soon but I have had medical issues for many years so to me it makes sense to get the shot. This doesn't mean I suggest you get it. Mike

PS I got what I believe was a virus in the the stomach and instestines that lasted over 2 weeks, not a good time.

1st Northern Kentucky man dies from flu this season

I never got them until I hit the fifties. I got one the end of October, and with the amount of sick people I have been around, I am glad I did! BroJer

Spreading crap does not help. Seriously? Mercury in shots? Wherever you are getting this info from they need to remove their tinfoil hats. That or yours.

I am sooooo sick of mis-information being spread. It just gets worse as the general populace relies on the internet more and more.

As far as the nurse that got fired after 22 years goes, I am guessing that they were looking for a reason to get rid of her to begin with, and this was the reason. I work in the health care industry and we are able to refuse the flu shot.

quoted from the FDA website: Thimerosal in Vaccines
Thimerosal is a mercury-containing organic compound (an organomercurial). Since the 1930s, it has been widely used as a preservative in a number of biological and drug products, including many vaccines...

I mostly get the flu shot so that my wife stops reminding me to get one, you know, the whole pick your battles syndrome. Seems like the more I work outside the healthier I stay.

I stand corrected. That was some good reading. Fortunately they are doing everything possible to phase that out and the levels used are very very small.
