I get mine from staples since the ink I take back pays for them there 22''18''12 they are medium in strength so I used a few loops of packing tape I load usually 40-60lbs since some of the boards are odd shapes at time I like these boxes and through usps I thought I was doing alright its between $28 and highest at 61.8lbs was $37.23 to ship to ewasted maybe I can do better though

Unfortunately you might have to experiment to find the right box for you. Since I didn't have a box on hand that I needed, I piled it all up and measured what I had. Then I multiplied the three sides (length times width times height) to find out what I volume I needed in cubic inches. Went online and looked up boxes at Walmart, etc. to see what was available. Did the math on what was in stock to find a box (in cubic inches) that best matched what I needed and chose a box. While out running errands, I purchased the box. I wound up with some extra room, so I threw in a few extra things and shipped it off.

Hopefully next time it will be easier.

18 in. x 18 in. x 16 in. Heavy Duty Medium Box-10010013 at The Home Depot

with a little poking around, this will hold 66lbs of escrap with a lot of it being boards.
the box weighs almost 3 lbs
i've been told that 65-69lbs gets you the best price per lb with fedex. once you hit 70lbs there is a price spike.

you can get a cheaper box this size rated for 65lb, but this is rated for 80lb and i like the overkill because stuff gets abused in shipping.
also walmart has a slightly larger one also rated for 80lb, but it ends up having room left over.

always ask your buyer if they have a fedex account if can save you a lot i payed about $55 to ship 2 65lb boxes, and that was picked up at my house.

USPS can be an absolute nightmare. I try to stick to UPS and FEDEX as much as possible. The last order a customer sent me via USPS literally took a month to arrive. Trying to deal with the reps there to find my shipment was a waste of time too... No one there feels like they have any control to make things happen for customers. Basically, being a government run entity vs a commercial business, they have no incentive to keep customers happy, whereas UPS and Fedex care enough to come to my door and ask how they can better serve my business.

I can't overstate how much more reliable the service is from UPS specifically.

I shipped a box to E-wasted yesterday 15"x15"x15" wieghed 55lbs and cost me less than 28.00$. That was from Florida. Using his prepaid lables is the best way to go, and I drop off at fed-ex office. That box had over 200.00$ worth of e-scrap.

Thanks guys...I think it is safe to say that buying a box will be the best way to go. After searching online, I realize that UHAUL actually has some great prices on boxes, and I have one across the street (kind of) from me, so I will walk over there tomorrow and see what they got.

If you plan to do fedex for our shipping the uhaul medium box is the perfect box for around 70 pounds of boards. However if you plan to do USPS parcel post I think that box is like 2 inches to big and goes into the oversize rate category.

Regarding the USPS parcel post, is that a bad thing?

I have looked over and over again at USPS boxes, and none of them seem big enough to do motherboards, pci cards, etc. all in one box...unless I am missing something lol

18" x 18" x 16" is not oversized according to usps and 18 x 24 x24 also made the cut, 24x24x24 and larger is oversized

LOL GEO your not going to find a box at USPS big enuff to ship the motherboards in. I get those free at walmart. Call your local walmar and talk with the manager. Find out when you can come in to get boxes. THe night shift usualy stocks everything for the next day and a person on the day shift feeds boxes into the compacter for a few hours. You have to find the time between those 2 functions and every walmart is different. You will get all the free boxes you want.

I never found USPS boxes to be a good fit for anything I needed to ship. One of their largest flat rates is called a "game box". "easily fits two regular board games". I have NEVER in my life shipped a game, of any kind, anywhere! Too bad they didn't make an "external drive box" instead ; )

The cost per pound adveraged about $0.50-$0.55. Of course pallet shiping has been much cheaper and worth asking Ewasted for prices. Mike.

    Mike.
    Yes.
Price with his prepaid label $37.73 without $49.05 and USPS was $41.80! So it did save me some money

    NOW you tell me! lol

Just giving you a hard time

Since I am still kind of small time, I have no issues in just going to uhaul and spending a few bucks. But when I go to walmart next (which is multiple times per weeks thanks to my wife), than I will speak to them and see what can be done.

I'm sure wal-mart will be more than willing to help you out, but if you find them difficult to work with (they do get paid for their compacted cardboard after all), I think you'll find Sam's Club a great alternative.. bigger boxes, and they will go out of their way to help out paying club members.

20 pounds of ceramic cpus in a regional rate B box shipped for $8.28. $2 for delivery confirmation with signature. $800 insurance thru my discounted insurance provider $6.32. Total cost for 20 pounds with $800 insurance and signature confirmation, $16.60.

Make sure you run clear shipping tape over your printed labels. It will protect them from tear off and your package from being lost/undeliverable.

In the words of Clark Howard "Insurance is for something you can't afford to replace."

I like the self insured jar that's awesome. I see know reason to insure any thing under $1000.00 have shipped metals in the multiple thousands with out it. If you ship USPS with signature confirmation you should be fine. The USPS seem to take better care of your package with that on it. However you do what make you sleep at night.

I use a service now just for PM's www.parcelpro.com. This is for my wife's piece of mind.
I buy Tantalum Capacitors and offer other services. Check out my thread for more info.
