This was one of my first threads and went back to read it. It took forever to find it, even with the search. I want to share it with recent members for their input and opinions. The premise is I am proud of our country and believe in a higher power than myself. I have another question, what do the stars mean? I searched this, but did not find an answer. Thank you and good luck to all.

What star? the one next to the thank button? Only star I see! An if so it's to give a member rep. Tho I think the thanks button does the same.

If not I'm just going to assume you've been into the cooler and are seeing stars.

always. I'll never have enough money to pass up free money. I save my change until I have a few mason jars full, then I'll sort, roll, and bank it.

    We are the stars who sing, we sing with our light;
We are the birds of fire, we fly over the sky.
    Our light is a voice.
We make a road for the spirits,
for the spirits to pass over.
Among us are three hunters who chase a bear.
There never was a time when they were not hunting.
We look down on the mountains.
This is the song of the stars.

Still pick up pennies everytime I see them, and aluminium cans as well. Copper cent worth .02, Zinc cent worth .01 and alum can worth .02! It all adds up!

That's an interesting question Patriot. According to a Congressional documents page of 1777 they were to symbolize "a new constellation"
A Century of Lawmaking for a New Nation: U.S. Congressional Documents and Debates, 1774 - 1875
    (second paragraph from the bottom)

Other interesting information about it's conception @ Betsy Ross and the American Flag
"According to Betsy, General Washington showed her a rough design of the flag that included a six-pointed star. Betsy, a standout with the scissors, demonstrated how to cut a five-pointed star in a single snip. Impressed, the committee entrusted Betsy with making our first flag."

According to the Wikipedia on stars, both the six pointed star, and the five pointed star had their origins in ancient times Star (polygon) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
both origins I believe to be of great significance

For some reason I knew Bear would be the first to figure it out. Bear, remember a previous challenge to the Renaissance Man. Sir you are the man of quotes, but Bear is the man of riddles. The rest of us just need to figure it out. Good luck to everyone.

I don't do riddles. Uses up to much of my already lacking brain power.

I have to conserve that for quotes, an my awesome wit.

Bear I forgot to add, there is more to the riddle. The clues are in the original post, your responses, and my update. Another clue, you had quite a volley where no one conceited. Yet you and your opponent were saying the same thing. I really did not think anyone would dig so deep to figure the stars out. There is more to the stars, but more on the other topic as well. You did add to my knowledge of the stars, (the Betsy Ross story) something I did not know, much less consider. I will tell you your response to another thread offers another clue, but it has since been deleted. Clue, the Pegan beliefs were the start of Christianity, ?, and ?. This ties into your last paragraph. Last clue, Bahia's. Enough clues about our origin, beliefs, founders, and freedom of religion. Okay one more clue, baby in a mothers womb. No one has to give up their morals and beliefs to listen to another point of view.

It really isn't a riddle Patriot, I just can't quote links to more direct answers on the forum, haha
The significance of its being made a five pointed star instead of a six, is something I found of greatest interest, symbolizing(from the wiki origins) just ten, instead of all twelve. Case in point is the inhabitants of present day Israel comprising the other two. Funny how things fall so remarkably into place ; )

I relate it to the 10 tribes and the 12 disciples. The decision of five stars over six stars relates to the Bahia's clue. When I read your response I questioned the wisdom of our forefathers. Now I understand it better than ever. Thank you for the lesson. To each their own and our forefathers recognized our different beliefs. Now we need to do the same. We do not need to accept them, only respect them.

Not a quote, but a riddle: I hate to get into a battle of wits with an unarmed man. Answer - A man not willing to listen to another point of view, cannot defend his beliefs.

I hope others will consider this a historical debate and not a religious discussion. I would hate to get kicked off the forum. If so it is a small price to pay. Imagine the price in North Korea. By the way the Pagan belief was started in Greece, the home of democracy.

It didn't mention 12 disciples, Patriot, I think maybe you misunderstood that part.
The twist is in the Betsy Ross and George Washington story, and how the stars we've got came to be 5 pointed ones instead of 6, but the "why" would carry us beyond the boundaries of what can actually be discussed here(hence the "riddle" feeling)

I don't get into topics on religion. I'll offend everyone, an please nobody. Which I guess this is what this topic is about an why I've not spoken in it. So I'll bow out now. Enjoy your discourse!

An I still pick up change, of all types.

Who, besides yourself, has mentioned religion?? He asked the meaning of the star. Wikipedia gives that information. If you'd care to read their "star" explanations, I posted a link ; )

This was my twisted attempt at humor and I apologize. My philosophical side came out and this was an attempt to merge our history, modern politics, and personal beliefs into one statement.
