    Copy of CL post

    Re: Free Firewood (LOL)

I always love the free firewood posts. The definition of firewood is wood that has been cut, split, stacked, seasoned and is ready to use as a viable fuel source. Most people dont understand, that what they really have, are standing trees. With that said, I have 100 acres of prime furniture that I would be willing to sell. by furniture I mean you will have to fell the trees, drag them away, mill them, dry them properly, and fine a good carpenter to turn them into furniture. but, they are just as much furniture as they are firewood, or toothpicks, for that matter . Well I just had to get that off my chest. I also have a free car. meaning I have some steel, plastic, rubber , an old motor, some upholstery, some old wire, and some glass pieces, but im sure someone can make a car from the peices

just bummed I am not the author ;-)

Ahaha, I saw that too. I even flagged it "best of".

There's a ton of "free firewood" posts right now. And, nothing good. I've not had good luck on our CL, lately.

I'm also amused by the semi-rude requests to come take stuff away.

Things like, "I need this couch gone today, must remove from house by yourself, bring help and don't damage anything when removing." Ahaha, really?

Or the clowns that want to charge more than retail for some beat-up old crap.

Oh man, I could go on forever about the dum-dums on CL, but I guess it's a necessary evil for most of us scrappers.

    I liked this headline today:

    "5 CD's for Improve your English - $15"

It looks like they are very effective.

I wish there were CL post like that around here you can't buy timberland because it's all been bought up or logged to death. I have acsess to the machinery manpower and mills to get the job done but it has to be somewhat close. I have done a few years as saw hog and know just about everybody from cutters to head sawyers. Wood is big buisness and the demand has finally risen a bit since it plummited a few years ago. could you post a link to that CL add i would greatly appreciate it Thanks

We have laws about moving ash out of the area here:

Ohio Department of Agriculture | Emerald Ash Borer

So not only do you have to do all the work cutting down trees, you could end up in jail depending where you take the wood.

To be honest I like cooking steaks over real wood then a gas grill or charcoal.

This is no longer the case in Ohio because the whole state in under quarantine. They wood people like to tell you that to keep you from buying out of county.

unfortunatley the ash borer and many other invasive species have been brought in by your local friendly wal-mart. I identified a new bug this summer and brought it to the atention of a couple of universitys in the area. This new bug from china is going to desicrate crops if it gains a foot hold here and the emerald ash borer is going to look like a lady bug. I work in all aspects of gardening from nurserys to agriculture to landscaping and i have no doubt in my mind there are a few new species every year that get introduced and we have no natural predators for them. unfortunatley this is where most of your cancer causing insecticides and herbicides come from that get sprayed on the food you eat. As far as the importation of firewood to my state yes there is a ban but... if treated with the right spays to kill any invasive species and doing the correct paperwork it can still be done but OH is way to far away to make any profit. The only free things on my areas cl lists are old stained couches 32'' tv's and one bunny cage. Don't think i will be traveling 50 - 75 miles for thoes anytime soon

Or the one that goes like this: " Free metal but, you have to take everything. That includes that huge pile of trash that will fill your truck up."

Its like dude, Im not going to pickup $20 worth of metal if I have to haul away $50 worth of trash.

here's one that starts great, free delivery! but just goes downhill from there.

    Firewood (Hopatcong NJ)
Have logs for firewood that will deliver if within 10 mile radius of Hopatcong free.

You must cut & split these logs - they are tree trucks 20' or shorter. Approx 2 to 4 cords of wood.

Wood is evergreen or lower grade deciduous. Email us of your interest.
