    Fires suck...

Went down yesterday and took a look at the house that caught fire last week. I've never felt so crushed in my life. It's insured, but the adjuster has already started to give me a bad feeling that I'm gonna have to fight to get paid correctly.

I'm thankful that no one was hurt and heartbroken all at the same time. This was the very first house that my wife and I ever purchased as kids (I was 20, she was 19) and even though we've had many more, we've held on to this one.

sad, man. I'd recommend giving it to your lawyer and let them deal with him

That's kind of where I think I'm heading. I'm gonna give the adjuster a chance to make it right, but I'm not gonna play the game for too long before I go that direction. Had a local builder that I went to school with many moons ago look at it today to see if it could be saved, he said it's a bulldozer. Talked to a local agent (not mine in this case, but a guy that I grew up with who also happens to be a firefighter that responded to the call), he's gonna help me out the best that he can in dealing with the adjuster. He told me what I already knew, that I was underinsured, but that with my connections in the construction game, I could probably get everything taken care of for my policy limits. To me it feels like the adjuster is prepping me for a number less than my limits.

I'll be ok, regardless. It's gonna put a severe cramp on my budding e-waste business, but it's not the end of the world. My heart aches for my renters, they didn't have any rental insurance, and lost everything. We are from a great community that rallies when needed, and I think they will be ok.

I am truly sorry for what you have to go through man, and your renters. My father's gf's house caught on fire early one morning, and lucky for our neighbors, I am alive today. 5 minutes after I got out of my room, it was in flames. The one odd thing that I remember the most about it all, was that the firefighters took the time to remove my laptop and cell phone so it wouldn't get damaged.

I know right now, for your renters it will seem like their whole world just crashed, but as you say, they will be just fine.

Good luck to you. Seems to me you are a good guy , it sucks that you have to deal with a situation like this. There was no loss of life and that is what really matters. It a good heads up to all to check your smoke , fire and c02 detectors, your evacuation plan and your insurance policy.
