Restoring outlook profile and email accounts

So today, I upgraded my desktop hard drive from almost 700gb to over 2tb.

Everything turned out GREAT. However, I transferred over my outlook files (.pst files etc), and I can see them there clear as day, but when I go to open up outlook, it just asks me to make up a new profile.

I have tried a few solutions that I found via google, such as OutlookFix, and scanpst and just copy and paste, and nothing is working.

The program I used to use to do all of this, for some reason hasn't been working lately, so I figured this would be a great way, since it worked for everything else.

Sadly though, I am mistaken. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. If I re add all the accounts manually, I dont even want to think about how many emails will download from the servers.

After coming up with no real good google results, I decided to hunt down a few webmail programs, I can host on my server, and just not have the issue anymore.

Trying out conjoon right now, and then will also try xuheki webmail to see which I like better.

So to understand this better, this is a clean install of Office since it's on a new hard drive?
If so, you'll have to reconfigure Outlook to work with your email. Basically, you have to configure Outlook to work with your email provider/host. That's likely why it's asking you to create a new profile.

The PST doesn't really have anything to do with the Outlook profile. All a pst really is, it's a file that holds your email and can easily be moved around. SO if you configured Outlook previously to use the POP protocol, which is simply a protocol that pulls your email off of the mail server and down to your computer, Outlook puts that mail into a pst and it no longer sits on the server(unless of course you check off the setting that states "leave copy on server". You can also configure Outlook to use the IMAP protocol, which leaves mail on the server but your simply using Outlook to read the mail and move it around or delete it off the server. If you were to set up Outlooks auto archive feature, this would then take the mail and put it into a pst.

That said, once you configure Outlook to work with your mail provider, you simply have to open the PST inside of Outlook... Depending on what version it's simply a file>Open data file (or something to that effect).

I am using a webbased email client for when I am out and about, and then using outlook for when I am at home.

The few I had found, had one issue or the other.

Outlook is great for many things, but they need to have a way to transport email accounts, signatures, contacts, etc more easily.

I think I understand what your saying.

Not sure any mail hosts / email clients will do exactly what you desire.

You could use something like Microsofts Office 365, which is a payed hosted Exchange service. Outlook configuration is pretty painless and should auto configure itself.

Google Apps paid subscription might also do the trick but you'll need to download and install Google Apps sync to get it to work nicely with Outlook and even then Outlook will still need to be configured.

Neither are expensive and you get a crap ton of storage and other benefits.
