It looks very bad out there in OK as the pictures are coming in. I wish them the best...

For being in Tornado Alley, not too many houses have basements because most houses are built on slab there. You would think folks would want a basement.

has moore taken a hit ? tonight?
Moore took a hit at about 3:30 this afternoon. 51 dead as of 9:30est. 24 kids traped in the basement of a school presomed dead.Sorry for being so blunt, I say this with a heavy hart. Many people do have storm shelters(small basements) The force of the tornadoe was so strong that ripped the doors off of the storm shelters and some of the doors were covered with debris trapping people in the shelters.
Looks like they are fixing to take another storm. God bless them people, and I pray they are spared another round of severe weather.

Sirscrapalot - Having a few cold ones for the folks out there, specially the teacher who saved them children with her own body.
I've never professed to be a real 'religious' man, but I pray God be with those people. It's truely horrific

used to live there. Moore is tornado central, been hit badly 3 times that I know of. one F5 in 98/99 one in the mid 70s and at least an F4 yesterday. on my second day there I stood in my front yard and watched one tornado go by on the south while another went by to the north. Moore is a nice town. God bless them.

was stationed in Lawton and there was a tornado a day it seemed. God bless the children who died so very young

God bless little children while they're still too young to hate
I'm 10 miles away from there, would it be ok to try and pick up scrap from there or do you think that would be too soon or would I be allowed to at all?
You could maybe do some cleaning up with the others then hand out a few cards in case they want to contact you for further clean-up.
Pretty soon they'll be dumping it in dumptrucks and hauling it away. Soon as people get their keepsakes picked out.
It's a shame their getting poured on,,,

at the risk of sounding insensitive, as soon as i heard about what happened & saw the pics
my mind was like, hospital, hmmm
lots of good scrap there
there will obviously be a cleanup operation & it would be a shame for valuable metal to get wasted.
Not much will be wasted. Problem is when people take whats not theres, the homeowners need to have the insurance people out first before they will give or throw away anything. This town has had big storms before and I am sure not much of anything of value, will go to the landfill. These people will get thru these hard times, it will just take some time...
If your 10 miles away then you could go around the out skirts of where the tornado was and find debris. The news said debris was found 100 miles away. I'm sure that debris was light stuff like papers and pitchers but the bigger stuff you might be able to find a few miles away from the scene.
thanks everyone yeah they have already arrested 5 different sets of people last I heard, out skirts sounds good, had a friend that was driving around looking at the damage said people already have it out on there curb hmm?
I'm thinking it's too soon. Still. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it's never timely to scrap tornado wreckage for profit.
I realize that something needs to be done with all that detritus, but I do not believe that going out there & picking through it right now would paint the industry in a good light.
